Let’s go back to 1990. Fresh out of high school, Emma stepped into ENS Bambili, unaware that she was beginning a journey that would redefine English Language Teaching (ELT) in Cameroon and beyond. Fast forward 31 years, and her story reflects unwavering dedication and transformative leadership.
By 1994, armed with a DIPES 1, she began her teaching career at GSS Tinto, Mamfe, in Manyu Division—a real baptism by fire. Imagine a school with just three classrooms where academics were overshadowed by hunting and fishing, and resources were minimal. Frustration was palpable, but then a spark ignited. Just two months into her career, she attended a SWATE (South West Association of Teachers of English) seminar in Kumba, which changed everything.

This was more than just a seminar; it was a revelation. Emma’s potential was quickly recognized as she was elected Vice Secretary General and became immersed in a community of seasoned educators. Here, the mantra "Iron Sharpens Iron" was not just a saying; it was a way of life. She absorbed knowledge and honed her teaching skills, and by 1996, she was presenting and sharing her insights, becoming a driving force in divisional and regional ELT development.

Emma isn’t just a teacher; she is a master networker. Her proactive approach caught the attention of Regional Pedagogic Inspectors, who recognized her talent. She has co-authored several English and Literature textbooks used in Cameroon, Ghana, and Kenya, including noteworthy titles such as:
- 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉
- 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑶𝒏
- 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉
- 𝑨𝒅𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆
- 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝑬𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒉; 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆
Let’s not forget "𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅," a groundbreaking set of phonetic drill cards (still unpublished but legendary), designed to empower learners to conquer spelling and sight words with confidence. Throughout her career, Emma’s passion for teaching young learners and teenagers has remained central to her mission, driving her to innovate and inspire.

Emma’s ability to connect, collaborate, and energize others is unparalleled. When CAMELTA, the umbrella association for English Language Teachers, emerged in 2001, Emma played a crucial role in bridging gaps and strengthening ELT communities across Cameroon, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual growth. Her presentations and workshops in Mbalmayo, Menji, Bafia-Yaoundé, Bamenda, Bafoussam, Yaoundé, and Douala sparked a wave of interregional collaboration, showcasing her networking prowess.

Emma's thirst for knowledge is insatiable. In 2022, she became a SUSI alumna, studying administration and American Literature at California State University-Chico. Her academic excellence led her to receive the prestigious Hornby Award to pursue an MA in ELT with a specialization in ICT and Multimedia at the University of Warwick, one of the UK’s top universities.
Upon her return, she served as Regional Pedagogic Inspector of English in the Far North, blending rigour with empathy. At ENS Maroua, she designed inspiring courses for future teachers, later serving as the Regional Pedagogic Inspector for the Promotion of Bilingualism in the South. Emma's experience was further enriched with programs at regional Hornby schools in Libreville, Senegal, and Abidjan. Today, as Principal of GHS Great Soppo Buea, she is cultivating the next generation of changemakers.

- Head of the Young Learners Special Interest Group (SIG)
- Member of Africa ELTA, BAAL Language in Africa SIG, TESOL, and IATEFL
- Consultant with Transform ELT
- Strand Coordinator with TESOL
- Principal of GHS Great Soppo Buea
Emma’s contributions to international conferences are equally impressive, having presented at TESOL twice and at IATEFL four times, sharing her expertise with a global audience. She continues to inspire teachers, students, and educational leaders worldwide.
Yet, when asked about her greatest pride, she humbly replies, “Those ‘demotivated’ students from 1994? They taught me to listen first, teach second.”
