The Ripple Effect of Coaching on Teaching at Ray of Hope Academy

At Ray of Hope Academy, the ripple effect of strong instructional coaching is becoming visible across classrooms, departments, and even within our school culture. Under the leadership of Mr. Caspar Etame, Academy Manager, coaching has grown from a supportive practice into a powerful movement—one that is steadily shaping the mindsets, confidence, and professional capacity of our teachers.

Each week, during the Wednesday in-service training sessions, teachers gather not only to learn new strategies, but to reflect, collaborate, and stretch their understanding of effective teaching. I am especially glad to have attended the most recent session, where the commitment to growth was truly evident. These trainings are rooted in consistency and purpose—each one builds on the last, helping teachers apply small, meaningful changes that add up to significant instructional growth.

Mr. Etame’s coaching approach emphasizes:
- Modeling and demonstration, allowing teachers to see effective strategies in action.
- Constructive feedback, offered in ways that motivate rather than overwhelm.
- Reflective dialogue, helping teachers understand why certain approaches work.
- Shared accountability, creating a culture where growth is a collective commitment.

Beyond these weekly sessions, we are also actively recruiting trainers from the USA, Cameroon and other parts of the world who may be open to coming alongside us next semester. This global collaboration has the potential to deepen our professional development, introduce fresh perspectives, and widen opportunities for both teachers and students.

The impact of this work is unmistakable. Teachers are becoming more intentional in lesson planning, more confident in classroom management, and more responsive to students’ needs. As each teacher grows, the quality of learning across the academy rises—this is the true ripple effect.

What began as coaching has evolved into a professional learning culture. Through dedication, clear vision, and steady mentorship, Mr. Caspar Etame is not only training teachers; he is shaping leaders and strengthening the foundation of Ray of Hope Academy for years to come.

We are waiting for you or someone you know. Come join us next semester or sometime next year and experience the ripple effect…

Thanksgiving may be over, but thankfulness continues.

At Ray of Hope Academy, gratitude is not just a holiday theme—it is a way of life. This week, our students carried that spirit forward as they visited an orphanage to share gifts, encouragement, and their time with children living in very different circumstances. It was a beautiful reminder that gratitude grows deeper when it is expressed through compassion.

As our students sat, played, talked, and prayed with the children, something powerful happened: they realized that thankfulness is most meaningful when it moves us to serve others. Moments like these are part of the values we work hard to instill at Ray of Hope—gratitude, empathy, humility, kindness, and a generous heart. We want our students to understand that they are blessed, not just for their own sake, but so they can be a blessing.

Even though the Thanksgiving holiday has passed, the attitude of thankfulness continues to shape our community. We are proud of our students for living out these values and for recognizing that true gratitude is shown not only in words, but in actions.

At Ray of Hope Academy, Thanksgiving is a day—but thankfulness is a lifestyle.

EVERY CHILD IS NOTICED HERE!

At Ray of Hope Academy, we are a school—and a sanctuary—where teachers notice the children who weren’t noticed anywhere else.

In a world where countless young people slip quietly through hallways, classrooms, and conversations, our mission begins with a simple yet radical act: seeing them. We believe every child carries a story, a strength, and a spark that deserves recognition. And we know that attention—real attention—can be transformative.

So we slow down.
We look again.
We learn their rhythms, their silence, their subtle cues.
We offer an extra greeting when someone drifts in unnoticed. We pause for a gentle check-in with the student who seems “fine” but isn’t. We create space for voices that have grown timid from being overlooked.

Because at Ray of Hope, noticing is not accidental. It is our practice, our culture, our calling.

The smallest gestures become turning points. A moment of presence becomes a moment of possibility. A child who once felt invisible begins to believe, perhaps for the first time, that they matter—which can change the direction of a life in ways none of us may ever fully see.

So we ask ourselves every day:
Who might be waiting for my attention?
Who needs to be seen right now?

This is the heart of Ray of Hope Academy: a community where every child is noticed, known, and nurtured. And where being seen becomes the beginning of becoming.

PURE JOY AT RAY OF HOPE ACADEMY!

There are moments that remind us why we do what we do — and today was one of them. Watching our children interact with one another on their way home was pure joy. Their laughter, their conversations, the way they looked out for each other… it was a beautiful reflection of the community we are building.

At Ray of Hope Academy, we don’t just educate minds — we nurture friendships, character, and a sense of belonging. Seeing our students walk together, talk together, and care for one another is a powerful reminder that learning continues far beyond the classroom.

These small moments speak loudly: We are raising confident, joyful, compassionate young people.

And that is something worth celebrating every single day.

On another note, we are more than half way paying for land to build a permanent school and campus. We already have rendering from three architects and engineering firms. The area has been cleared and trees removed with soil testing done .

A Vision for the New Ray of Hope Academy Campus

Our vision for this new campus is bold, purposeful, and deeply inspiring. This facility will not only expand our capacity but elevate the learning experience for every child who walks through our doors. The new campus will feature:
- Spacious, modern classrooms from Pre-Nursery through High School
- A dedicated Science & Technology wing for STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics)
- A well-equipped library and media center to nurture literacy, research, and digital skills
- Art, music, and vocational skills rooms to develop creativity and practical competencies
- A multipurpose hall for assemblies, performances, and community events
- Early-childhood play areas, small outdoor playing fields, and green spaces designed for healthy growth and recreation
- Specialized, detailed, and appropriate spaces for children with autism, including sensory-friendly rooms, structured learning environments, and observation classrooms to support both learners and teachers
- Enhanced safety and accessibility features throughout the campus
- Administrative, counseling, and support spaces focused on student well-being
- Improved essential infrastructure, including reliable water (with plans to install our own system), electricity, sanitation, and comfortable learning conditions

Moving into our own permanent space will mark a major turning point in the life of our school. It will give our students the environment they deserve—one intentionally designed for their growth, success, and dignity. It will also allow our teachers to work more effectively and create the stability needed for long-term excellence.

In addition, having our own campus will eliminate the over $24,000 we currently spend every month on rents for our three rented buildings. This will significantly reduce our present deficit and allow us to attract more paying parents and enroll more students, strengthening the financial foundation of the school while expanding access to quality education and impact.

We are profoundly grateful to all our friends, partners, and supporters. This journey is only possible because of your loyalty, generosity, and belief in the mission of Ray of Hope Academy.

Together, we are building a brighter future—one learner at a time.

A Meaningful Evening with Dedicated Parents and the Ray of Hope Academy Team

Part of our administrative team, together with the Ray of Hope Academy ICT teacher, spent a wonderful and inspiring evening with Yannick and Antoinette Ngappou — long-standing parents who have been part of our school family for many years.

Yannick, an IT specialist with a wealth of creativity, shared many insightful ideas with us. He demonstrated not only the transformative power of ICT in learning but also how technology can be integrated into our school environment through the development of custom apps for students, teachers, and parents. His passion and forward-thinking approach made for a very energizing discussion. We look forward to continuing these conversations to see how these possibilities can take shape.

A key part of our school’s mission is fostering strong involvement and genuine partnership with parents. Evenings like this affirm the value of collaboration and remind us of how much we can achieve when parents and the school work hand-in-hand. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to hearing from more parents who wish to contribute their expertise and ideas.

At Ray of Hope Academy, our goal is not only to be the best school we can be but to serve as a model within our country — a leader in innovative, holistic, and impactful education.

Together, we are building something remarkable.

RE: SCHOOL WILL RESUME ON MONDAY, October 10, 2025!

Dear ROHA Community,

I want to take this opportunity to extend heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated staff at Ray of Hope Academy who showed up at school today to clean and prepare their classrooms for the return of our learners. I couldn’t be prouder of these brave and committed souls!

We are indeed living in uncertain times, and in moments like these, we have two choices: we can allow fear to consume us, or we can rise above it — replacing fear with faith, courage, and hope.

Someone once said that fear has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise. The choice is ours.

Though the sun may seem to have set over our nation following this recent election and its aftermath, some of us still choose to see the dawn of a better tomorrow. Let’s keep that hope alive.

Earlier today, I drove two of our guests to the airport, and it was encouraging to see the city gradually coming back to life. Yes, there is still some uncertainty surrounding tomorrow’s swearing-in of Mr. Biya and the claims made by Mr. Tchiroma — but we must accept that this is part of the unfolding story we are all living through.

Taking into account both the current climate and the thoughtful input from parents within and outside this forum, we will not hold classes tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday. However, school will resume in full force on Monday, barring any major developments. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep everyone informed should any changes arise.

On a lighter note, AJ and I were able to relax this evening and enjoy some ice cream in Bonamoussadi. It was refreshing to see people out and about — another reminder that life goes on, and that brighter days are ahead.

I also want to encourage everyone in our community, especially those who may feel the need to exercise their civic rights, to ensure that their actions remain peaceful and nonviolent. Let us be guided by wisdom and love, setting an example of calm strength and integrity.

I plan to personally be on campus on Monday to welcome our learners back and to celebrate together the hope and promise that education brings.

We look forward to seeing everyone again, ready to learn, grow, and move forward together.

Let me leave you with this encouraging verse from Deuteronomy 31:8:

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Optimistically,

Introducing Children to Technology at Ray of Hope Academy

What does this image inspire in you? For many of us, this kind of access to technology wasn’t even available during our university years — yet today, children at Ray of Hope Academy are being introduced to computers and digital literacy right from primary school.

But this is about more than just learning how to type or use a mouse. It’s about opening doors, expanding minds, and preparing our children for the world they’re growing into. In a rapidly changing society, our goal is to raise students who are adaptable, confident, and equipped to thrive in any environment.

At Ray of Hope, we believe that early exposure to tools like computers is essential. It empowers students with foundational skills that will benefit them for life — in school, in the workplace, and beyond.

Ray of Hope Academy — shaping minds, building futures.

We are currently seeking donations of laptops and computers that can be shipped to Cameroon. Our dream is to provide each child with access to a personal computer while at school — either through individual devices or a fully equipped computer lab and library.

If you or someone you know can help, please reach out. Let’s invest in their future, one computer at a time.

The Power of Parental Involvement: Investing in Our Children’s Growth

At Ray of Hope Academy, we’ve spent the past nine years deeply committed to equipping our learners with quality books and educational resources. The impact has been clear: improved academic performance, stronger reading habits, greater curiosity, and a more confident approach to learning.

But as we continue to invest in our students, we are reminded of something equally important:

The vital role of parents in every child’s learning journey.

Why Parental Involvement Matters

Numerous studies — and years of experience — confirm what we already know intuitively: when parents are involved in their children’s education, the results are remarkable. Children do better not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well.

In particular, the years from ages 1 to 12 are critical. These early and middle childhood years lay the foundation for a child’s character, values, habits, and overall development.

During this special season, no one is more influential than you — the parent. Your involvement can make all the difference.

This is why our mission at Ray of Hope Academy includes:

“…to develop students into lifelong learners through rigorous, research-based curricula, individualized instruction, high expectations, and a nurturing environment that includes parental and community involvement.”

Your role is not optional. It’s foundational — and irreplaceable.

Resources for Parents: Learning Never Stops

Recently, I had the privilege of visiting a dear friend who has authored an outstanding book on parenting. After receiving a signed copy, I felt deeply inspired to make more resources like this available to our Ray of Hope parents.

While we’ve spent years curating and investing in books for our learners, it’s time we build a collection specifically for parents. These books are designed to help you navigate the joys and challenges of parenting with wisdom, intention, and grace.

I plan to order additional copies of this parenting book from Amazon, along with other carefully selected titles, and make them available for borrowing. I warmly encourage you to:
- Stop by and browse our Parent Resource Shelf
- Borrow a book, read it, and apply the lessons at home
- Talk with other parents — share what’s working
- Let us know what kind of support or topics interest you

Let’s Build Together

We know parenting isn’t easy — and it shouldn’t be done in isolation. That’s why Ray of Hope Academy also partners with local and international universities and offers opportunities for professional growth. But most importantly, we believe the most powerful partnership is the one between home and school.

Let’s commit to:
- Making time for our children
- Turning everyday moments into learning opportunities
- Being present, intentional, and curious
- Working together for the good of every child

When parents and educators collaborate, our children flourish.

A Final Word: Intentional Parenting is Powerful Parenting

Whether your child is just starting out or already on their way, these years — especially between ages 1 and 12 — are a golden opportunity. Let’s not waste it.

Visit us. Browse the books. Borrow one. Read a few pages each day. Talk about it. Try something new at home. Your children are watching, learning, and growing — and you are their first and most lasting teacher.

Together, let’s raise a generation that shines.

Let’s build the future together — one book, one conversation, and one intentional act at a time.

Enthusiastically,

Ernest Ehabe, Founder & Chief Innocation Officer

Welcome to a New Term at Ray of Hope Academy!

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” – Dr. Seuss

We opened our doors for another exciting school term, and we are filled with hope, anticipation, and determination. At Ray of Hope Academy, we believe that every child—regardless of ability—deserves the chance to explore, discover, and grow in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This term, we are celebrating:
- New beginnings
- Brighter minds
- Stronger connections
- Bolder steps toward independence and purpose

From our early learners to our older students, each child walks through our gates with their own unique strengths, challenges, and dreams. And it is our joy and calling to walk alongside them—empowering, encouraging, and equipping them every step of the way.

This term, we will continue to:
- Embrace learners from all backgrounds (both neural-diverse and neuro-typical)
- Offer specialized support for children with autism and other special needs
- Foster an inclusive learning environment where neurotypical and neurodiverse students learn and grow together
- Support parents and families through training and partnership
- Cultivate a culture of belonging, kindness, and possibility

We are still in rented, makeshift buildings, but our vision is growing faster than our walls can hold. As we raise funds for our permanent building, we are reminded that it’s not the building that makes the school—it’s the love, commitment, and courage within it. So here’s to a school term full of:
✅ Learning
✅ Laughter
✅ Friendship
✅ Progress
✅ And the belief that every child can soar, given the right support.

To our teachers, parents, students, staff, and supporters around the world—thank you for being part of this journey. Your prayers, generosity, and encouragement continue to make a lasting difference.

Stay tuned as we share stories, smiles, and successes from this term!

Drop a word of encouragement in the comments—we’ll share them with our students and staff!
