Never jump from a moving vehicle. The risk of serious or fatal injury is far higher than staying inside. In most cases, the safest option is to stay seated, hold on firmly, and protect yourself until the vehicle comes to a stop.

I received this patient during my last call, he was a passenger in a vehicle that lost control, he panicked and jumped out while it was still moving. He was the only one to sustain a major injury. All the other passengers were uninjured

We may only spend a short time with our patients, but the impact can last a lifetime.

Yesterday, while I was heading to the store, a young man in his 30s smiled and greeted me: “Hello, Doctor.”
I didn’t recognize him, so I asked if we had met before. He replied, “You amputated my leg about nine months ago.”

I was taken aback. He was wearing trousers and two shoes, so it took me a moment to realize he must have a prosthetic leg.

As he told me a bit of his story, I remembered him clearly.
He had come to the hospital after a terrible road accident with a badly injured leg. At first, we tried to save it, but the damage was too severe. An amputation was the only option. Understandably, he was hesitant, but as the situation worsened and after many conversations, he agreed.

Seeing him yesterday — walking confidently, healthy, and full of life — filled me with pride and gratitude.

We may only cross paths with some people for a few hours or days, but we can leave a mark that lasts forever. Let’s make sure that mark is a positive one. ❤️

🦴 A Story That Needs to Be Told

Today I consulted a young woman who broke her thigh bone (femur) a year ago. She didn’t go to the hospital. Instead, like many others in our communities, she turned to traditional treatment.

Now, she walks with a limp. Her leg is 5 cm shorter, and an X-ray shows that the bone healed in the wrong position.

She now needs corrective surgery. It will cost more, take more time to recover, and she’ll have to go through the bone healing process all over again.

This is not just her story. It’s the story of many patients who come to us too late, often with preventable complications:
❗ Malunions
❗ Nonunions
❗ Infections
❗ Even amputations

Traditional bone setting is part of our culture, but when done without medical training or proper equipment, it can lead to serious harm.

💭 So what can we do?

Educate our communities ??

Train and regulate traditional practitioners ??

Make hospital care more affordable and reachable ??

We have to work together, health workers, families, traditional healers, and policymakers so that stories like hers become fewer and fewer.

Please share your thoughts. What’s the best way forward?

🚨 I call it the Vicious Cycle of Doom in the Elderly — what is it and How We Can Break It

As our loved ones age, many begin to experience joint pai, especially from arthritis. At first, it may seem like a normal part of getting older. But what often follows is a dangerous and preventable cycle:

1. Joint pain limits movement

2. Limited mobility causes bone loss (osteoporosis)

3. Fragile bones break easily, even from minor falls

4. Fractures lead to long-term bedrest or wheelchair use

5. Immobility significantly increases the risk of death

📉 In fact, according to the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. bedridden elderly people are 3 to 6 times more likely to die within 6–12 months than their mobile peers.
🦵 But here’s the good news:
Modern medicine has made it possible for many elderly people to walk pain-free again — thanks to joint replacements, physical therapy, and early intervention.

👉 Movement is medicine.
👉 Mobility is independence.
👉 Staying active saves lives.

Let’s shift our mindset:
Aging does NOT have to mean giving up movement. Let’s advocate for early treatment, safe environments, and an active lifestyle for our elderly community.

Let’s break the cycle before it begins. 💪💙

If you could give one advice to a doctor, what would it be?
I would really like to hear from you

Growing up, I often saw elderly people becoming wheelchair-bound at a relatively young age due to knee or hip pain, whether from aging, arthritis, or past injuries. Back then, I thought it was just part of getting old. It seemed inevitable.

But things have changed.

Today, I see patients in their 70s, 80s, even 90s undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery and walking pain-free just days later. Modern orthopedic techniques and joint prostheses are giving people their mobility, independence, and quality of life back.

Aging doesn’t have to mean living in pain.
If you or someone you love is struggling with joint pain, know that help is available. Talk to a specialist. Don’t wait until it’s unbearable.

Mobility is freedom — and it's more possible than ever. 💪💙
