I just said let me remind you all, I will also make a reminder post tomorrow. It is a great joy to sit and learn from a superstar that is making it already. I want to say the students of HIMS Buea are actually blessed to school in that institution. Because HIMS has the best Lecturers, the best administrators, the best learning environment and the best core moral values. All students of the institution can attest to this, even the global star can also attest to this.

Day one of the 2024 session of the Higher National Diploma, (HND) defense

The 2024 class of HND students of HIMS Buea, today April 16, 2024 started the defense of their internship reports. The candidates displayed a lot of eloquence, and confidence as they displayed mastery of theories learned from lectures and practice of their work during internship (reports).

Official Visit of the Institute of Chartered Accounting of Nigeria (ICAN) to HIMS Buea

Received by Professor Cornelius M Lambi, Rector of HIMS, the president of the Institute of Chartered Accounting of Nigeria (ICAN) Innocent Okwusa, PhD, FCA on an official Visit to Cameroon made a stop at HIMS Buea where he had an exchange with the administration and a fruitful meeting with levels 200 to 400 students of the departments of Accountancy and, those of Banking and Finance on what ICAN is and its benefits on their career.

After close to six months of intense lectures and practical exercises on campus, level 200 students of the School of Medical and Biomedical Sciences under the strict and experienced supervision of Dr. Malika, commenced their internship training at the Regional Hospital of Buea.

As students of all Schools (School of Management and Business, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Tourism, Logistics and Transport Management and the School of Medical and Biomedical Sciences) of HIMS Buea start their first semester examinations for the 2023-2024 academic year, the president and staff of HIMS-Buea wish them good luck and Success.

Hotel Management and Catering

As part of the training process, students of the department of Hotel Management and Catering learned how:
- To interact with clients
- To work with hotel computer systems
- To be organized
- To solve hospitality issues

As part of the practical exercise, the level 200 students folded their sleeves and had both hands filled with flour, eggs, butter, milk, water and much more.

Some of the particular activities that they did included:

- Production of cakes and cupcakes
- Butter icing and cupcakes decorations
- Cakes decorations

Today, Saturday January 3rd, 2024 at their Mayor's Street, Molyko, Buea campus, Professor Cornelius M. Lambi, rector of HIMS Buea, officially declared open the 2024 edition of the "HIMS Leadership Academy" (HIMSLA) under the theme: Living a Legacy.

Level 200 students from the Department of Nursing and Midwifery of the School of Medical and Biomedical Sciences started their practical lessons on the various techniques used in the field. The students learned five techniques as they took turns bandaging their mates' hands, going from:

1) Circular bandaging
2) Spiral bandaging
3) Reverse bandaging
4) Figure-of-eight bandaging
5) Recurrent bandaging

As they took part in the practical lessons, the instructor gave them practical ethical counsel on how to treat and approach patients, taking into consideration a good number of scenarios at the hospital.

In prelude to the upcoming first semester examination, level 400 students of the department of software engineering, partitioned in five groups were given research topics by which they had to identify societal problems, carry-out in-depth research and propose applications that could solve the said problems.

These groups worked on the following topics:

- Secure chat application
- Secure file sharing system
- Digital signature verification
- Encryption and decryption software etc.

Each group's topic was thoroughly examined and questioned by both the facilitator and their peers on the various methodologies used in solving their respective identified societal problems.

How to manage and overcome stress

Examination periods can be truly stressful, and many learners suffer from anxiety and panic attacks before and during these periods. As students of HIMS-Buea prepare for their first semester examinations, here are a few tips on how to manage stress, anxiety and panic by learners:

What to do before examinations

- Prepare in advance (Get organized the night before the exams)
- know the time and hall of the exams
- Put the exams in perspective
- Get practical help if necessary
- Belong to a study group or study on your own
- Get a good night's sleep before the exams

How to manage stress in the exam hall

- Believe in yourself
- Answer the questions you know best first, skip over questions you do not know and come back to it later
- When tensed, close your eyes and imagine a positive outcome
- Perform relaxation techniques like, taking a deep breath and relaxing your muscles one at the time
- Do not compare your answers

These tips would help learners overcome stress, and anxiety before, and during their examinations.

Hypertension also known as High Blood pressure occurs when the blood pressure in the blood vessels is too high (140/90 mmhg or higher). Today, our students from the department of Medical and Biomedical Sciences took time to sensitize their peers on the causes and prevention of Hypertension.

As said by nurse Andok Pauline Ngonwi (a student), here are some things that can increase the risk of getting Hypertension:
- High salt diet
- Old age factors
- Genetic factors
- Over weight (Obesity)
- Smoking and Stress factors
- Lack of enough physical activities
- Heavy drinking of alcohol and coffee
After measuring the blood pressure of their mates, they proceeded to throw more light on how to prevent Hypertension:
- Keeping a healthy diet
- Keeping a healthy weight
- Avoiding smoking and stress
- Getting, at least, 30 minutes of physical activity a day

Further, her mate, Mbah Tatiana Ambit, from the field of Midwifery educated them on the efforts of Hypertension on pregnancy, and these include:
- Less blood flow to the placenta, which might lead to a decrease in the level of oxygen and nutrients received by the fetus.
- A slow down in the growth of the fetus, which might lead to premature birth and low birth weight

Today the 15th of December 2023 ,the Higher Institution Of Management Studies (HIMS) Buea proudly graduates it's 15th batch of HND, 9th batch of B.Tech and the 5th batch of MBA students at the 15th convocation ceremony at the HIMS Mayor street campus.

HIMS Buea President's Cup Competition

An annual sporting event that brings together HIMS students in two disciplines, namely football and handball respectively, ran from the 22nd of November to the 8th of December 2023, and saw the participation of six teams from levels 200 to 400. This was the 3rd edition of the HIMS President's cup competition.

The final football match was marked by moments of surprises, fair play and suspense with an unexpected turn as level 200 boys dominated their counterparts and winners of the 2nd edition of the prestigious President's Cup and won 2 goals to 1 at full time. They, this, become the champions of the 3rd edition of the President's Cup Competition.

On the part of the ladies,
the same spirit of solidarity and fairness reigned and level 200 girls championed the game by snatching victory from level 300 at the handball finals.

Rende-zvous in 2024 for the 4th edition of the President's Cup Competition.

The Higher Institute of Management Studies (HIMS), Buea, under the mentorship of The University of Bamenda (UBa) will be graduating its 15th, 9th, and 5th batches of HND, B.Tech, and MBA students respectively at their Mayor's Street, Molyko-Buea campus.
This Convocation ceremony will have in attendance over 300 graduating students in various fields of study from two out of the four approved Schools of the institution: the school of Business & Management and the School of Engineering & Technology.
