Cameroon Relaunches PhD and Doctorate Admissions in 2026: A New Chapter for Higher Education

For several years, Cameroon experienced a prolonged suspension and severe limitations in the recruitment of PhD and Doctorate students across its public universities. This situation slowed academic progression, weakened research output, and delayed the renewal of teaching and research staff nationwide. Many Master’s degree holders were left in uncertainty, waiting for the reopening of doctoral opportunities.

In 2026, this long-awaited moment has arrived.

The Government of Cameroon has officially relaunched the recruitment of PhD and Doctorate students, with 600 candidates to be selected across 11 state universities. This decision marks a significant step toward revitalising research, innovation, and advanced human capital development in the country.

The application process has already commenced. The University of Bertoua began receiving files yesterday, while the University of Ebolowa started today. This means nine other public universities are expected to open their application windows in the coming days.

You can now apply for a PhD at the University of Bertoua . Please note that applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the Master’s level. Professional Master’s degrees are not accepted. You must apply strictly within your field of study. For example, if you hold a BSc in Economics and an MSc in Economics, you should apply for a PhD in Economics. Applying for unrelated fields such as Banking and Finance or Accounting will show a lack of seriousness. Selection is highly competitive..
