Action Lab for Development

Make a $20 Difference Today to Support Action Lab Emergency Response to Covid-19.
Our organization exists to support local initiatives through the exchange of ideas on creative innovation and youth social entrepreneurship.
We provide tools and training with a focus on sustainability, including technical support, management support, networking opportunities, as well as vocational education via open source design networks with our partners.
We facilitate ongoing knowledge sharing with our partners to build a network with values of justice, fairness, and equality to meet the social and economic needs of every person on our planet.
Our value chains changed dramatically after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic which has left us in need of financial support to enable Action Lab to deliver on its mandate. When the pandemic spread in Cameroon, we made a choice to seek the necessary and available means to stay afloat in order to be the beacon of hope for the community.
It was at that point, when that call to sustain the community initiative came, we realized that we needed help to support our mission and ensure sustainability of our course.
We are all affected by the growing Covid-19 pandemic. It's an unprecedented health challenge and the world has never faced a crisis like Covid-19. The pandemic is impacting communities everywhere.
If you’re staying at home, you may find yourself feeling helpless – or hopeless, we’re physically separated from our friends and neighbors right now – but we can still come together to save lives and make a difference.
In times like these, fear is rampant—but so is compassion. In our hometowns and around the world, we find hope in each other: in neighbors helping neighbors, in health workers and humanitarians going to extraordinary measures to provide care, and in the kindness, creativity, and thoughtfulness of friends and strangers.
With the generous support of people like you, Action Lab will be able to strengthen the immediate needs of our local community in Cameroon.
The following emergency relief items will be funded:
📌 Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks;
📌 Hand sanitize, soap, and bucket pipes to facilitate regular
hand washing;
📌 The printing of Covid-19 prevention information posters and
leaflets for dissemination;
📌 The support of Action Lab entrepreneurs who have lost their
businesses due to the war & Covid-19.

The Cameroon we dream!!!
Anglophone Cameroonians the treasure is inside
On Tuesday 6th June 2017, a delegation of six of the General Inspectorate of Training Service of Vocational Training and Guidance from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP) Yaounde headed by Mme Lassie Marie Louise, Chief of Service in Charge of Employment in that Ministry arrived Bamenda, capital of the North West to hold a working session with the Regional Delegate, Regional Chiefs, Divisional Delegates, Directors of public and private vocational training centres and paid a working visit to Tobby Vision Computers Institute.
At the session proper after singing the national anthem and saying prayers the Regional Delegate, Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training Mme Fongang Prudentia in her welcome speech thanked the government for the policies it is putting in place to solve the current crisis in the two Anglophone regions. She indicated that during an earlier coordination meeting with Directors of Centres in her region of command their claims were forwarded to government and she hopes government is addressing those claims. Mme Fongang Prudentia, the regional delegate MINEFOP North West disclosed that there are forty six (46) private vocational training centres and seventy (76) public centres commonly known as SAR/SMs in the whole north west region. She welcomed the delegation from Yaounde and wished them a happy stay in Bamenda, the chief town of the North West Region.
The various North West regional chiefs of that ministry explain to participants things in their domain of expertise. After the Chief of Service for Pedagogy brief the directors of vocational centres on how to produce and submit their pedagogic report statistics, she handed important working tools - forms and handouts to heads of institutions for this purpose.
Mr. Ouamba, Regional Chief of Service for Promotion of Employment and Projects North West told heads of institutions to inform their trainees and other youth of that our government has signed a partnership with the government of Morocco and Algeria to offer scholarships to youths. Trainees and youths should be consulting the ministry’s website www.minefop.com to check out this information. He also regretted that there are many opportunities that government is offering in the agropastoral sector through projects and unfortunately each time they make announcements very few youths turn out to apply. He also gave the heads of institutions the necessary formalities to fulfill in order to get subventions for equipment or building from the government.
Thereafter followed a presentation by the head of the mission from the Ministry – General Inspectorate of Training and Vocational Guidance, working session, intervention from participants, other matters, closing remarks and working visit to Tobby Vision Computers Institute.
Tobby Vision Computers Institute
The team from MINEFOP Yaounde accompanied by the Regional Delegate, Regional Chief of Service for pedagogy arriving at Tobby Vision Computers Bambui was accorded a warm reception. The Director and Dean of the institution Mr. Cornelius Tfurndabi Tawong and Mr. Fidelis Nchotindoh welcomed them and introduced the other members of staffs and with over forty students of that institution present to welcome the delegation.
The team visited the developers laboratory, computers maintenance laboratory, the entrepreneurship classroom and practice department, and all other departments of the institution. The team expressed joy and satisfaction seeing many trainees studying who welcome them despite the crisis rocking the two Anglophone regions. The Regional Delegate, Mme Fongang Prudentia thanked the staff telling them she has seen and will inform hierarchy, encouraged the students not to fear and to take their studies seriously.
The institution presented to the team from the Ministry a certificate of recognition and trophy as best model technical vocational training centre for the 21st century received from the African Union Commission. The director also handed to the head of the mission an entrepreneurship curriculum which the institution developed with an entrepreneur from South America, and an application requesting for support to acquire more digital equipment and construct a centre from government to the team to take to the Minister in Yaounde.
Group pictures were taken with the happy and satisfied team from MINEFOP and the institution offered diner to them at the Director’s residence.
Although many Anglophones feel that they are marginalized in Cameroon, we believe and know different that the change we want is inside. Everything Tobby Vision Computers Institute do, we believe in challenging the status quo in the NW and SW regions of Cameroon, we believe thinking differently and that Bamenda and Buea could become the best cities in the world. The way we challenge the status quo is by providing high quality vocational training for every Anglophone Cameroonian. Connecting the dots, from skills development to jobs in Cameroon. Experteer Eduardo Diaz lives this experience at Kudu-Tabenken, Donga Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon during his experteering with Tobby Vision Computers

Our Story

We are Tobby Vision Computers Vocational Training Institute located in Bambui, in the North-West Region of Cameroon. The institute was founded on the 9th of February 2002 with a vision to train with practical skills and improve the lives of students and their families and with mission to boost high quality practical technological education for employment and poverty alleviation. Since 2012 we are officially reconnized by the Ministry of Education.
From 2012 to 2018 the institute has enrolled and trained 722 students in technical skills necessary to become successful in its different departments namely; Administrative Assistants, Graphic & Web Designers, Computerised Accounting, Computer Maintenance and Repairs, Computer Programming, Entrepreneurship.
We were awarded with a certificate of recognition as the best model Technical, Vocational Education Training Center for the 21st Century in Africa by the African Union Commission. Additionally we won the best training institute award of the year in 2016 from the national
media in Cameroon despite the limited equipment and uncomfortable school premises.
Now we are looking to take the next development step. In August and September 2017, we have had various workshops to develop out strategy and resulting projects, this process was facilitated with the support of Olaf Seidel, A&O Business Enablement who kindly donated his time.
We identified various areas in which we would like to further professionalize and grow to be able to teach and train more students in more subjects. The to be developed departments are Agriculture, Woodworks, Autorepairs, Fashion Design and Clothing.
Despite a very promising business case, mainly due to the lack of suitable funding options in Cameroon we currently aim to do this in a step b step approach involving different financing models and stakeholders.
We are looking for partners and support, to provide funds and/or equipment, for the construction of a modern campus, digital as well as workshop practice equipment to enable better hands on training.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Cornelius and the Tobby Vision Computers Team
