Today, in this lesson, we're going to look at the difference between " " and " 're". So many non-native speakers and learners of English use these words interchangeably, and of course, inappropriately.
I). Your: This is used to show possession or belonging. That is, it is used to indicate that something belongs to someone, etc. Ex 1. This is your phone, you left it on your table.
Ex 2. Are your parents planning to celebrate your birthday?
II). You're: This is the contracted (short) form of two words, "you" & "are".
Ex 1. You're so beautiful, mum.
Ex 2. George, you're supposed to be in school at 7:30 a.m. You're late!
Exercise: Use "you're" or "your" to complete these sentences.
1. Did you say...... my father?
2. When you bathe, you should change... clothes.
3. ... all welcome to my birthday party.
4. Have you noticed that... gradually becoming blind?
5. ... stories are boring. In fact, ...... boring!
