📖✍️ Learning to read and write is a fundamental human right. It opens up opportunities to strengthen educational pathways and support personal development throughout life, and is essential to building fairer, more equitable societies. Ensuring this right requires commitment, collaboration, and sustained efforts to advance sustainable, scalable, evidence-based policies.
🗓️ On , which this year is celebrated under the theme ‘Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity’, we are sharing a video about the study visit to Fortaleza, Brazil, organized this year by SUMMA, in partnership with the KIX LAC Hub and co-organised with the Associação Bem Comum, with the support of GPE KIX, Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, IDRC / CRDI and Instituto Natura, and which brought together representatives from eight countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The initiative aimed to give national delegations a first-hand insight into the experience of Sobral and the state of Ceará, to strengthen peer learning and to promote education policies based on evidence, cooperation and political commitment.
🤝This visit was part of a broader regional effort launched with the Antigua Commitment ✨, a shared agenda to transform foundational learning from public policy right through to the classroom.
