PAO Russell K. Brooks' discussion on ''Selma Lord Selma'' at ISCAE.

AC Yamoussoukro on March11 reached out to ISCAE (a private college of Business & Administration) for a movie show and debate program. Participants viewed ’’Selma, Lord, Selma’’, a movie that celebrates the sacrifices and achievements of the men and women who were involved in the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March , also known as ‘’the bloody Sunday’’.
Just after the movie and for more than one hour, PAO Russell K. Brooks held an instructive discussion with the participants on the movie in which characters such as Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and 11 year old sheyann Webb appear as role models for the youth audience.

AC Yamoussoukro hosted on April21 &22(7:30 to 9:30) teaching sessions by ELF Daniel Owen and English Instructor Alice Owen. Around 40 undergraduate students in first year Commercial Preparatory class (COM1 B) attended for two days the instructive teaching sessions. Divided in three groups, students engaged in pair works, active conversation sessions (on weather, holidays, etc.), discussed the meaning of a few proverbs in English and used internet (Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab) for listening and assignments. Participants really appreciated the opportunity to learn from native speakers and practice their English.

American Corner Yamoussoukro hosted on April20 a presentation on’’ Applying new Technologies to topography’’. The presenter was Rani El Meouche, Associate professor in Constructability Research Institute (ESTP/IRC) France who received a Master’s Degree in Engineering/ Surveying from ESGT Le Mans, France, M.Sc. in Geographical Information Sciences and a Ph.D. Degree from the same University. 3D Laser scanning is considered a far better solution to constructions errors since it both provide a quick and accurate 3D model of the study area. His presentation offered the opportunity to learn and update latest information in the field.

April22, 2015 American Corner INPHB Yamoussoukro hosted the meeting of Daniel Owen (English Language Fellow) with the Foreign Language (English) Section of Institut National Polytechnique Houphouet Boigny. Seven(07) Teachers of English had had an instructive working session with ELF Daniel Owen.

January10, the local section of the Forum of English teachers of Cote d’Ivoire(FPACI) organized an ‘’AKWABA’’ (Welcome in local language) reception for English Language Fellow Daniel Owen and his wife, Alice at Lycee Scientifique.
’’ We are honored to receive you and your wife here this morning. Your presence in Yamoussoukro is a positive response of Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy to the request for training of FPACI. They have done much for us but much still remained to be done’’ Nda Kouassi, the Chairman of FPACI declared on behalf of all participants in his welcome speech. An interactive discussion that followed covered many issues namely the teaching strategies implemented so far in Cote d’Ivoire, the challenges teachers face daily and how upcoming training sessions with ELF Owen will be organized.

Friday9, English Language Fellow, Daniel Owen had his second meeting with General Inspectors and Inspectors of the national Education in Yamoussoukro. For 60 minutes ELF Daniel and his hosts had an instructive working session. General Inspector of English, AHOU KITAN, on behalf of the attendees made an overview presentation of the high school system in Yamoussoukro and the challenges they are facing daily. ELF, Daniel Owen, had clear and better understanding of his hosts’ expectations. A meeting gathering all the general Inspectors and Inspectors of Yamoussoukro was set for the following week at the American Corner Yamoussoukro in order to work out details and set up a clear training sessions with ELF Owen over the next months.

Friday9, new English Language Fellow, DANIEL OWEN, pays a courtesy call to the Regional Director of the national Education in Yamoussoukro. , Marcel Perreti the Assistant of the Regional Director who received Mr. Owen on behalf of his Boss, Abdoulaye Diacko(the Regional Director) expressed the national ‘’AKWABA’’ to his host and then had a short but instructive talks related to the high school system with ELF Owen. They discussed topics such as the state of high school system in the region and the need for training of trainers (teachers) of the region. ELF Owen really appreciated his first contact with the high school world and the warmth welcome He received.

December18, Daniel Owen, new English Language Fellow, discovers American Corner INPHB

159 students in 1eres (A1, A1, C) and Terminales (A1, A2 and D) organized an English Immersion session at the American Corner INPHB Yamoussoukro. General Inspector of English, Mrs. Kitan and Mr. NDA KOUASSI, English Teacher and Chairman of FPACI(Forum of High school teachers of English of Yamoussoukro) supervized the program. Participants fostered their knowledge about the American Corner and showed their know how in English. The program was a BIG SUCCESSS. A follow up program will take place in 2 months at Lycée Mixte 1.
