Our Crete Closed Meeting is getting closer. And while the science will be, as always, at the heart of these three days, the social program will carry an equally important weight. Because EAED is not only what happens inside the lecture room: it is also what happens outside, between one session and the next, in the shared moments and experiences that make this meeting unlike any other.

A multidisciplinary approach has always been at the heart of EAED, and it is one of the beliefs we carry into every event we create. Because we know that real growth happens at the intersection of different visions, different goals, different ways of seeing. Only by embracing that complexity can we build a practice that is truly complete, and offer every patient the care they deserve.

As we look forward to the next Closed Meeting, we want to pause and revisit one of the most meaningful chapters of the last edition in the Algarve: the presentations delivered by our Members and Candidates.
Those sessions truly embody what our Academy is about, a genuine exchange of knowledge where each speaker had the opportunity to share their perspective, their clinical experience and their vision for the discipline.
Warm congratulations to everyone who took part and contributed to a dialogue that continues to shape our profession. We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

Watching new bonds take shape, friendships grow and unforgettable moments unfold is one of our greatest joys. While the pursuit of scientific excellence is what drives us, we've always believed it can only truly flourish in a place where people feel welcomed, connected and genuinely at ease. That has been part of who we are since the very beginning.

Our Closed Meetings are far from a secondary moment for the Academy. They are one of the most meaningful chapters of our year, a space where a single topic is explored with depth and dedication.

Thanks to the contribution of our international speakers, each edition becomes a chance to step inside the daily practice of other colleagues, to understand how they work and to draw inspiration for our own path, in an atmosphere of open dialogue and shared learning.

This year, we’ll be gathering again in the beautiful setting of Crete, Greece, from September 17th to 19th, for what promises to be an intense and heartfelt moment of growth, reserved for our Members and selected Guests.

Today we take you inside the editorial by Prof. Aris Petros Tripodakis and Dr. Stefano Gracis, a lucid reflection on the "gray zone" in esthetic restorative dentistry. The piece stems from the discussions that took place during our 2024 Closed Meeting in Sardinia, a subject introduced by Dr. Didier Dietschi and enriched, among many other valuable contributions, by those of Dr. Tony Rotondo, Dr. Federico Ferraris and Prof. Amelie Mainjot.

At its core, the editorial examines the two material families that have shaped modern restorative dentistry, composite resins and ceramics, both capable of remarkable optical results in reproducing the qualities of enamel and dentin. The authors reaffirm the multifactorial nature of clinical decision-making and the central role of minimally invasive principles, tissue preservation and patient-centered ethics.

To dive deeper into the topic, read the full editorial in the Supplement/2026, the latest issue of the IJED.

This year, we celebrate 40 years. Forty years of history, of dedication, of passion. Forty years of dentists coming together from across Europe, united by a shared belief in the future of their profession.

When our Academy was founded, its purpose was clear: to promote excellence, and to foster the kind of open exchange and sharing of knowledge that can only happen when passionate professionals truly meet.

That purpose has never changed. And in a world where new technologies are offering extraordinary possibilities, we embrace them as powerful tools to elevate our work, while remaining committed to one thing above all: ensuring that human experience and human touch are never lost along the way.

At our latest Spring Meeting, we had the joy of celebrating the 8th edition of the EAED Photo Contest. Over the years, this has grown into one of our most cherished traditions, a moment that brings us closer to the artistic vision of talented dentists who know how to look for beauty beyond what is immediately visible, and that reminds us how much heart lives behind our profession.
Heartfelt congratulations to our winners Doina Andreeva, Alberto Speranza and Hamza Malik for their beautiful photographs, and a warm thank you to everyone who took part and shared a piece of their vision with us.

The opening of our meeting is the moment when everything begins. When the scientific program comes to life and the days ahead start to take shape.
It’s when new topics emerge, debates open up, and fresh perspectives begin to circulate. It’s an invitation to explore new ground, to question what we know, and to carry back to our daily practice the insights that push the discipline forward.
