Walk The Talk Zurich Toastmaster's Club celebrated our Perfect Tenth Anniversary on July 13, 2022 in the lovely park behind the National Museum. It was a sweltering day with lots of sunshine in the midst of a fantastic oasis of calm and greenery provided
by two-hundred-year-old plane trees.
As a club emerging from post-CoVid restrictions, we have seen our membership drop to a trickle at times but we valiantly push on, keeping a positive perspective ... in the words of a famous statesman, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." This indeed is the maxim the core members of our club continue to live by.
Or to quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: "What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us matter less than what lies within us." We will prevail.
We had several guests join us for drinks and snacks. Our delectable summer picnic consisted of finger-licking fried chicken wings, spicy spring rolls and mini pizza on focaccia bread, washed down with
lots of sparkling wine, beer and water. For dessert, everyone munched on a slab of Laederach chocolates
handcrafted with artisanal love.
The evening was highlighted with two speeches from Christina Kwok and Kyle Bullus.
Christina shared a deeply personal story with us linked to a story from Marshall Goldsmith, an executive coach, with a broader message about taking charge of one's own life: "when life knocks you down, you get up again."
Kyle shared his escapades of swimming in swiss rivers, the adventure and thrill of the sport and stressed the importance of not only being fit mentally & physically
but also taking steps to prepare and research the swim.
Following the speeches, we held our typical RoundRobbin evaluations so that everyone could contribute feedback to the speakers in addition to a formal Evaluation. Our highly appreciated RoundRobbin Sessions always draw out additional
elements of constructive criticism that may have been overlooked by one Evaluator.
The TableTopics of the Evening, a Taboo Game, expertly conducted by Christoph Aublinger, was
pure entertainment in itself, combining plenty of fun, light humor and easy camaraderie. What we assumed was a relatively easy game to play and win, wasn't
always the case as we watched participants get stumped, struggling to find uncommon words to
describe the commonest of objects, words, nouns & expressions without being allowed to use 5 unmentionable taboo words on their card.
It couldn't have been a more memorable summer evening and we heartily thank all friends of Walk The Talk and supporters who made it possible. Here's to the Next Ten years.

The largest human exodus in history is about to take place in the weeks and days leading up to the dawn of the Lunar New Year on Feb 1, 2022. *Millions of people on the Chinese mainland will leave the cities (their place of work) to return to their rural hometowns or ancestral villages to meet with families in a joyous and heartwarming reunion.
What is perhaps less well known is that not only in China but across Asia, this celebration also known as the Spring Festival, is ardently observed by large Chinese communities (diaspora) in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, Vietnam and Mongolia.
Come join us at Walk The Talk on February 9 as we usher in this auspicious occasion with drinks and titbits. Yan Yan, our in-house expert on Chinese culture, will regale us with stories of how she spends this favorite time of the year with family and friends. If you like, you can take part in a quiz to test your knowledge of Chinese New Year traditions & customs.
*Number estimated to be over 400 million people in comparison to North America's mass movements of 100 million over Christmas/New Year and about 55 million over Thanksgiving.
Note: CoVid19 restrictions of 2G+ are in effect at Karl Der Grosse
