🧑🏫 What is studying at the ETH Zürich like?
Once a year, a group of high school students spend a week immersed in university life to get a real taste of studying at ETH. At the beginning of June, ten gymnasiasts were given the opportunity to explore the world of agricultural sciences during such a programme. 🌿

🌧️ Rainy skies framed this year's USYS Conference in Davos, where around 100 researchers from D-USYS met to discuss the role of science in challenging times. Across talks, workshops, and conversations, one question stood out: how can science remain responsive in a rapidly changing world? 📸

Nina Buchmann, Leiterin des Instituts für Agrarwissenschaften am D-USYS der ETH Zürich und Professorin für Graslandwissenschaften, wurde am letzten Freitag in den Vorstand der SCNAT (Akademie der Naturwissenschaften Schweiz) gewählt.
Ab dem 1. Januar 2027 wird sie die Nachfolge von Barbara König antreten und ihre Expertise aus Forschung, Nachhaltigkeit und interdisziplinärer Zusammenarbeit in diese wichtige Rolle einbringen.
Wir gratulieren herzlich zu dieser Wahl und wünschen viel Erfolg für die neue Aufgabe! 🎉

🇬🇧 Nina Buchmann, Head of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at D-USYS, ETH Zurich, and Professor of Grassland Science, was elected to the Executive Board of (Swiss Academy of Sciences) last Friday.
From 1 January 2027, she will succeed Barbara König and bring her expertise in research, sustainability and interdisciplinary collaboration to this important role.

How does vegetation help regulate Earth’s climate? 🌍
In his PhD research at ETH Zürich, Julian Rogger, who studied Agricultural Sciences at our department, explored this question by integrating adaptable vegetation into carbon cycle models. For this outstanding work, he has been awarded the Prix Schläfli for Geosciences.

🎉 Congratulations to Astrid Stubbusch on receiving the Prix Schläfli 2026 in Biology!
In her PhD at D‑USYS, ETH Zürich , conducted at Eawag, she revealed the surprising strategies bacteria use to find food. The work was supervised by Olga Schubert and Martin Ackermann, together with CaraMagnabosco (Departement Erd- und Planetenwissenschaften, ETH Zürich).
An excellent example of interdisciplinary research!! 🥳
