Pascal Couchepin (on the left) was Minister of the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs (Bundesrat, Eidgenössische Departement des Innern), who visited our laboratory in 2005. Now he is retired. Pascal Couchepin was one of the 7 Swiss ministers at that time.

The International Conference on Smart Monitoring, Assessment and Rehabilitation of Civil Structures, SMAR 2013, will provide a forum for international scientists, engineers, enterprisers and infrastructure managers to present and discuss the state-of-the-practice and recent advances in testing and monitoring technology, in structural modelling and assessment methods, and in the application of advanced materials for structural rehabilitation. The conference will provide a platform for exploring the potential of international cooperation.
At Structural Engineering Research Laboratory of Empa, we do research for a higher level of safety and security in civil engineering structures.
Through the application of modern materials and technologies, new solutions in vibration mitigation, structural health monitoring and earthquake retrofitting will be acquired.
