🌞 A summer walk by the Zürisee
While the public schools are closed the Children First holiday care programme was in full swing! One of the highlights of our Sensory fun weeks was a beautiful walk by Lake Zurich. We enjoyed the sparkling lake right here in our own city.

From watching boats glide by and touching the bark of trees to smelling flowers and touching giant modern sculptures—every moment was a chance to learn through movement, nature, and curiosity.

These simple experiences help children connect with the world around them using all their senses. 🌿👃👀✋👂

We’re already looking forward to the next adventure!

At Children First, we take Montessori’s words to heart. Our curated bilingual curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child emotionally, socially, and cognitively in English and German. With small group sizes and native-speaking educators, we foster self-expression, independence, and a love of learning.
Happiness here isn’t accidental—it’s our goal. Because when children feel valued, engaged, and understood, they thrive–and that’s the true measure of success.

✨Summer Saturday Sensory Walk in Oerlikon✨
Explore, observe, and awaken the senses — together.
During our “Through the Senses” theme at Children First Play School, we turned our outings into outdoor sensory scavenger hunts. By searching for specific sights, sounds, and textures, our children sharpened their observation and listening skills — all through the power of play. 🌿👂👀

🌞 Try it with your family this summer!
Here’s a beautiful route in Zürich to explore:
📍 Start at Milchbuck tram stop (Tram 10 — currently runs from Tiefenbrunnen to Oerlikon due to Hauptbahnhof construction).🌳 Walk up the hill to Irchel Park➡️ Curve right and listen for birds in the trees🦋 Touch soft grass, look for butterflies, and listen for buzzing dragonflies👣 Climb the big hill to the lookout point🐷 Walk down a bit to smell the pigs near the animal area

♿️ With a stroller?
Head back the way you came after visiting the pigs.🚶 On foot? Take the scenic route through the University of Zürich Irchel campus (avoid construction at the back).
🐸 On your way, stop at the pond and listen for frogs!

🍒 End your walk with a market stop:
Hop back on Tram 10 and get off at Sternen Oerlikon — just in time for the Saturday market (open til 12pm).
✨ Taste juicy, sweet fruit🧀 Sample savoury olives and cheese🌸 Smell fresh flowers🥗 Pick up veggies for a crisp salad later

A sensory adventure for the whole family — right in the heart of Zürich.

Montessori in Action: The Stereognostic Sense
Last week in Kindergarten, we explored one of the fascinating aspects of Montessori education—the stereognostic sense: the ability to recognise objects by touch alone, without seeing, hearing, smelling, or tasting them. This sense is crucial for developing spatial awareness and understanding the world around us.
At Children First, we developed this sense through a fun and focused circle time game. First, the children examined the objects and named them together. Then, with a blindfold on, they guessed each item using only their hands—encouraging memory, concentration, and sensory awareness.
Hands-on learning that engages the mind and the senses—that’s Montessori at its best!
