Moira Marsh: “Folkloristic Approaches to Ritual Humor and Everyday Humor”
📅 November 6 | 14:30–15:30 CET | Online
How does humour function in rituals and everyday life? What happens when jokes fail to make people laugh, and how do audiences respond to humorous performances?
Moira Marsh (PhD) is the author of Practically Joking (2015), the first book-length scholarly study devoted to practical joking as a genre. Her research focuses primarily on audience reception of humour, especially the phenomenon of unlaughter, and she has published several articles exploring different aspects of these topics. She is also a well-known jackalope wrangler and currently serves as President of the International Society for Humor Studies.
