20 Years ICST on SRF – “Musik unserer Zeit” (Music of Our Time)

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST), Switzerland’s national radio station SRF is dedicating the final two episodes of Music of Our Time to the institute. The broadcasts will air tomorrow, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, and will be available afterward as podcasts.

EARS 2026 – Emerging Artists-Researchers in Sound and Technology

Are you an emerging artist interested in practice-based research in sound and technology?

The Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST) at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) offers a one-year programme supporting artists in developing a practice-based pilot project, creating a research plan for doctoral studies, and preparing an application for an artistic PhD collaboration programme at ZHdK (or another institution).

Research at ICST spans both artistic and scientific approaches, offering a rich environment for developing innovative, practice-oriented research. Participants receive individualized artistic and technical mentoring from two ICST research associates, as well as additional methodological support tailored to their needs.

OPEN CALL – ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE AT ICST 2026

The Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST) invites applications for its 2026 residency programme, fostering artistic exchange in key areas of current research.

Residencies are available in: Spatial Synthesis (ICST Studio Residency), Klavierautomat (Algorithmic Composition), Moving Loudspeakers, Dance & Generative AI and Wave Field Synthesis.

The programme offers access to ICST’s facilities, professional support from researchers, as well as meals and accommodation.
Artists and musicians working with sound and sound media — and whose practice reflects a strong interest in one of the listed research areas — are encouraged to apply.

One selected project from the ICST Studio Residency will be featured at the SONIC MATTER Festival 2027 (www.sonicmatter.ch).

Applications are open until 1 September 2025, 24:00h CET.
