As the new school year kicks off, we've got more of these moments lined up. Keep an eye out for our upcoming family concerts and musical activities — you won't want your little one to miss the fun.

"Help Me Do It By Myself"
Maria Montessori put it plainly: "Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed."
Here's what that looks like in real life.
Your child wants a glass of water. The fast thing to do is stand up, grab a cup, fill it, and hand it over. But every time we do that, we quietly take away a learning opportunity.
Next time, try this instead:
🍏Model it — "Come, let me show you."
🍏Invite them to try — "Now you try."
🍏Collaborate — if it's still tricky, do it together. Slower at first, but they'll get there.
Our kids are so much more capable than we give them credit for. Doing everything for them sends a message, even without meaning to: "you're a guest here" or "I don't think you can do this." Getting them involved sends a different one entirely.
They'll feel:
✅ Empowered
✅ Able
✅ Like an active, contributing part of the family
ou'll feel:
✅ Lighter — the weight of doing EVERYTHING isn't just on you
✅ More joyful, watching what they're actually capable of
✅ Less like a headless chicken running around doing it all
And it doesn't stop with babies. My 6 and 3 year old recently insisted on hanging the washing with me — I genuinely thought it was a stalling tactic to avoid finishing dinner. Turned out they meant it. My jaw dropped 😅
Start modelling, collaborating, and empowering your kids early, and you skip years of nagging, urging, and bribing later. Win-win-win.
So much of what we do at Academicus is built on this exact idea: help me do it by myself.
And this starts earlier than you'd think. Even a newborn is watching everything you do—absorbing it, and eventually imitating your movements, your words, the way you interact with the world. If you're expecting, come learn more at our upcoming BABY101 workshop on Sep 6, 2026.

Change your conversations at pick-up time 👇
Instead of asking "How was your day?" (answer: "fine" 🙄), try one of these:
"What made you laugh today?"
"Who did you help today?"
"What was the trickiest thing you did?"
Specific questions open real conversations — and every one of them builds your child's language, memory and confidence.
Little questions, big talkers.

Bringing baby home soon? 👶
Baby 101 is back — our newborn care class for expecting parents who want to feel ready, not just excited (though we love the excited part too).
We'll walk you through the stuff nobody fully explains before you leave the hospital: feeding, sleeping, bathing, nappy changes, newborn reflexes, and yes — the witching hour. We'll also cover setting up your home, what you actually need (vs. what's just on every registry), and what to expect from your midwife visits after birth.
Three hours, one Sunday morning, and a lot fewer 3am "wait, is this normal?" moments ahead.
📅 Sunday, September 6, 2026
🕤 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
📍 Waffenplatzstrasse 5, 8002 Zürich .
