Zurich Glass School is an ideal School of Art for creatives to build a solid foundation in skills wit The school isn't only working on flameworking skills.

Christmas is coming and it's time to hone your glass skills and get some beautiful handmade presents created!

www.atelier315.store/product-page/julie-1-heat-control-xmas-decs-e-course

Zurich Glass School offers Julie 1: Heat Control | Xmas Decs E-course channel. This self-led course is designed for beginners in sculpting off-mandrel in order to get a deeper understanding of how to control the heat in borosilicate glass.

This class is designed by glass master Dr Julie Anne Denton and is a stand alone course, but purposefully designed to be the precurser to Julie 2: Ghost Flower - Introduction to big sculpture in borosilicate glass. This course will build upon your personal understanding of how the heat and the glass work together to gently develop your skill level in the comfort of your own studio. In this E_course you will learn how to make simple flat twisted and tapered forms, filigrana cane simple and tough, zanfirico simple and tough, perfectly concentric dots and variants on the original shapes we introduce. These forms will teach you a variety of techniques. The class allows you to work in a creative way with colour on clear borosilicate. You will learn how to encase clear rod and twist and shape in the flame to create an icicle with a loop/bail to hang from. Loop exercises are set and once both design and loops are mastered we delve into the use of stripes twisted on the outside of the icicle leading to the making of a variety of different types of ‘filigrana’ and 'zanfirico' cane in the Italian style. We will look at a number of design types with colour. The most important technique you will learn on this workshop is how to use heat to control (to your best advantage) and pull glass uniformly. By the end of the workshop participants will have many beautiful creations for home or as gifts.

Class includes:
Six video tutorials which should take three weeks to complete if you include your practicing time. This course includes how to make loops / bails, simple flat twisty, simple taper, mini taper, simple filigrana, perfect concentric dots, difficult flat twist, combating asymmetry, tough filigrana, simplified zanfirico and rich yet difficult zanfirico.

You will also receive a complimentary one on one consultation with the maestro to help you through the tricky bits. It is adviseable to use this as our participants find them invalueable.

You can work through this course at your own pace. You will be given 3 months unlimited access to the Julie1: Heat control channel.

Skill Level: Own torch or access to a flameworking studio is a necessity. Experience in flameworking is helpful but not a necessity.

Glass as a Fine Art Medium: Brief History and the Role of Adriano Berengo as a Fine Art Glass Impresario 27/01/2022

This is an interesting and researched article written by a colleague of mine - Goshka Bialek. We both completed our PhD's at the same establishment around the same time. There's a nice little history of glass and a discussion of the technical attributes of glass and why it is a tricky medium to work with.

Glass as a Fine Art Medium: Brief History and the Role of Adriano Berengo as a Fine Art Glass Impresario This article explores the role of glass as a medium in the fine arts rather than as a craft form. It includes a short history of glass as an art medium, the development of glass technologies and their application in the field of fine art. It reflects the distinctiveness of glass as a sculptural medi...

Hello followers and fans of Zurich Glass School calling,
After the Christmas rush it may be the right time time to start analyzing your creative business and start tweaking the things that need changing. On February 13th we begin a seven week business course for artists and craftspeople in glass. Normally this course costs $199, but we are offering an Earlier bird discount until until 22.01.2022 of 20% off this essential course with code Sell20J1

www.atelier315.store/bookings-checkout/selling-better-work

Do you wish to earn a living from your artwork? This course will help you get yourself and your work out there by helping you learn how to optimise your opportunities.

In ‘Selling Better Work’ we will cover different topics intrinsic to successfully running a creative business. Homework will be set each week to help you understand what your business needs. The more you take part in the imaginative homework and share your endeavours with the other participants, the more you will reach your personal epiphanies.

You will create a business forecast, set realistic monetary goals year on year and you will examine what are the best products or skills you wish to offer your clients in order to hit your targets. You will be shown how to split up your working time and thereafter realistically examine your current pricing structure because most likely your items are too cheap? We will check if you can diversify your business to create multiple income streams in these challenging times.

Discover what is holding you back from marketing yourself and why. After examining where your brand sits we will create a marketing action plan based on which marketing strategies best suit your business. Stop wasting time on social media and make it work for you instead. We will introduce you to tried and tested strategies which will help you set S.M.A.R.T. goals (Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Relevant. Time-bound) as opposed to vague ones. You will be encouraged to take action and gently yet methodically carve out your niche in the market by following your action plan.

What aspects of your business should be branded and why is it important to have a brand? You will learn how to create brand trust and how this drives loyalty and higher spends in clients. We will show you exactly what you should have in place to launch a successful brand. Why photography is important to your sales and what one great image can do for you. We will look at promotional material and how to personalise your brand image. We will ask you to examine the perceived value of your work and offer strategies to raise the perception of your brand to reflect its true worth.

We will look at why many designers create collections. How to sell more online, at events and through commissions. We will encourage you to find new stockists and galleries and show you methods which work when you approach these outlets for the first time.

This course includes a guest business professional and a guest artist. This years guest artist is glass photographer to the stars Simon Bruntnell. Simon will look into what makes a good working shot. He will examine professional working practices, what to expect, file formats for magazines, what publishers are looking for and copyright law. This year's business professional is Hollie Clague, a mover and shaker in charge of all aspects of governmental planning, Head of organisational development & design. Hollie will help you discover your personality type and discuss how to burning brightly without burning out.
At Zurich Glass School we want to get rid of this derogatory joke for good:
“What did the artist say to the client? Would you like chips with that sir!"
You may not be able to choose what music is playing, but you can control how you dance!
Over & out rubber ducky!
