Meet the Panelists

Marcel Ishimwe is an aspiring pharmacist and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AMR Initiative Rwanda, a non-profit organization implementing the One Health approach to prevent, mitigate, and control the spread of resistant microorganisms, while ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality antimicrobials, and promoting their prudent and rational use in Rwanda. Marcel has spoken at prominent global health forums including the 2024 World AMR Congress and Disease Prevention Control Summit, where he presented on Advancing Antibiotic Research through Interdisciplinary Collaboration. His work focuses on driving awareness, policy change, and sustainable solutions to address the growing threat of AMR in Rwanda.

Dr. Hermela is a General Practitioner from Ethiopia with experience across primary and tertiary care. She is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda, where she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Global Health Delivery in the One Health track. Her work focuses on health systems strengthening and generating evidence to design and scale equitable, effective healthcare interventions.

Zainab Abdullahi is a public health and international development professional with over five years of experience across Nigeria and West Africa. She currently serves as a Senior Program Associate for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) at Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, where she supports the design and implementation of programs that strengthen health systems, build health worker capacity, and promote safe practices to prevent infections. Her work focuses on advancing efforts to address AMR and improving infection prevention, with a strong emphasis on youth engagement and behavior change. She is particularly interested in empowering young people as advocates for responsible antimicrobial use and infection prevention. Zainab also has experience in epidemic preparedness, maternal and child health, and regional disease control initiatives, working with government and development partners to drive sustainable impact.
