Mit dem «Project of the Day» stellen wir euch ausgewählte Diplomarbeiten aus BA und MA Major des Departements Design vor. Heute im Fokus «Echo 1971. Stimmen einer Generation» von Alexa Weiss alexa! , Diplomandin Cast / Audiovisual Media Cast / Audiovisual Media.
_

In the format «Project of the Day», we present selected BA and MA diploma projects of the Department of Design. Today in focus: «On uncertainty: a graphic view on its forms» by Silvana Aponte , MA Major Visual Communication student.
_
About:
In classical physics, knowing position and momentum simultaneously is possible; in the quantum realm, nature sets a limit. It is not a failure of knowledge, but a choice: precision in one demands loss in the other. This is Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle: the more precisely a particle’s position is known, the less precisely its momentum can be. Formulated in abstract math, though rigorous, it limits access. Building on it, this research proposes Concrete Equations to address this displacement, making the abstract concrete and equating uncertainty itself.

Virtual lecture with Soyun Park
Interdisciplinary artist, researcher & educator
Join in via Zoom. Visit design.zhdk.ch for more info.
_
Soyun Park is a South Korean interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator based in The Hague, Netherlands. Her work studies the relationship between the political structures of media technology and the human body.
Investigating the power dynamics of surveillance and machine learning software embedded in society and bodies, she employs resistance, trespassing, and hacking in the act of making, using them as tools to reveal underlying predicaments.
She has exhibited and performed at media art festivals, cultural venues and film festivals, including Rewire Festival (NL), Nederland Fotomuseum (NL), Ars Electronica (AT), CTM Festival (DE), and iii workspace (NL). Her co-directed film ‘Wunderkammer 10.0’ was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the Jeonju International Film Festival in 2022.

DIANA SERBANESCU
Acts of poetic embodiment
An event in cooperation with the Immersive Arts Space ZHdK.
_
Diana Serbanescu is a transdisciplinary performer and media artist working at the intersection of embodiment and AI. Through her performance practice, she develops a poetic language in which the expressive body is amplified through hybridisation with the machine. Her artistic research explores feminist approaches to knowledge creation, as well as the continued relevance of traditions and community practices in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and digital colonisation.
Alongside her artistic work, Diana has been active as an academic researcher, lecturer, and course lead in Creative Robotics at the University of the Arts London, and as Research Lead in the Criticality of AI-based Systems group at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin. At the same time, she has continued her practice as a choreographer, performer, and artistic director of REPLICA, an artistic platform she co-founded in 2017.
Diana recently joined the Immersive Arts Space, where she contributes to the Performing AI project through the development of embodied synthesisers and generative approaches for AI + performance.
