Not Like That, Like This! 🐝

This is a funny story of a dad who accidentally gets his head stuck in park railings while showing his son what NOT to do. As more people try - and fail - to help, the situation becomes increasingly chaotic until he is finally freed.

It highlights and teaches children that even adults make mistakes and that problems can sometimes take many attempts to solve.

Children learn best when they start with a question!

Instead of saying "Let's learn facts about polar bears," the 'I Wonder...' series asks a question.

What does this do, and why is it such an important distinction?

It immediately hooks the reader's attention and makes them actively look for answers. This mirrors how learning works:

curiosity -> exploration -> understanding

Children are naturally always asking "why" or "how". By framing learning as a quest for answers, the books transform reading into an active experience. Children aren't just passively absorbing information; they're seeking solutions and exploring ideas, which strengthens their curiosity and problem-solving mindset.

Spring is here which makes it the perfect time to explore nature's beauty with your child. Does your child know the life-cycle of a butterfly? From teeny tiny eggs to wiggly caterpillars, sleep chrysalises and finally oh so beautiful butterflies!

Down in the Woods at Sleepytime 🐝

English Through Play 🐝

Seasons come and go, and we have watched the transition between thick, heavy winter coats to t-shirts and light jackets over the past few weeks.

Clothing changes over seasons along with the weather, and children learn to dress accordingly as they get older. Through playful learning, they can explore this concept by developing key skills while making meaningful connections between real life and what they see on these puzzle pieces.

At Busy Bees, we have selected the 'First Greek Myths' series by Saviour Pirotta as part of our weekly comprehension work. The books, illustrated by Jan Lewis, offer a captivating introduction to the world of Greek mythology for young readers. Pirotta's storytelling balances simplicity with vivid detail, making complex myths easy to understand while still preserving the excitement and drama.

The stories have been carefully adapted to suit a younger audience, softening darker elements while retaining the core themes of curiosity, bravery, greed and consequences that have made these myths timeless.

Jan Lewis's bright, colourful illustrations play a central role in bringing the myths to life. Her expressive artwork helps to visualise gods, heroes and monsters.

To take it one step further, Busy Bees has developed a whole new meaning of bringing books 'to life' by having the characters from the books hand crafted into three-dimensional soft toys.

This week they will meet the terrifying Medusa. Perseus has a quest. He must bring the monster Medusa's head to his evil king. But how can Perseus succeed when anyone who looks at Medusa's face is turned to stone? 🐍🗡️

Gigi & Lulu's Gigantic Fight 🐝

Gigi and Lulu are best friends who do everything together until a small disagreement turns into a big argument and they stop speaking to each other. Despite being encouraged to make up, both remain stubborn until a school event makes them realise that friendships don't require being exactly the same.

By the end of the story, they reconcile, learning to appreciate their differences and the importance of forgiveness.

This book is widely appreciated as a gently, relatable story for young children developing their social skills.
