The keynote lecture on Plastic Waste Management from Frank Moser that ISIA promoted in Levi 2023, raised the interest of Interski and IAESS. As many of you know already, a Working Group has been formed by the three Organisations and the United Nations BRS Convention Group, that signed a Memorandum of Understanding to continue working together about such topic.
The Working Group has now delivered a survey on the awareness about the topic that is addressed to all of our members, the whole Snowsports Community and all the people interested in the the future of our environment.
This topic is crucial for the health of the Mountains, then also for the future of our sports.

ISIA News August 2024
Dear ISIA Members, dear Colleagues and Friends,
we are going towards the end of a very hot northern summer and a snowy winter season in the southern hemisphere. Here some updates about the activities of ISIA.

New ISIA Office Secretary
The ISIA office has a new collaborator, that is taking care of the ordinary administration and will support the organisation of the ISIA events.

2024 ISIA Round Table and Assembly of the Delegates – 14th-17th of June, Livigno, Italy
Last June, 26 Member Nations attended the ISIA Round table and the annual Assembly of the Delegates that were successfully hosted in Livigno, by the Italian Member AMSI.
The event did show the commitment of the Italian Member to ISIA.
The ISIA Board express their gratefulness to AMSI and their President Luciano Stampa and Vice President Robert Demetz for the support they gave for the Assembly preparation and for their presence and contribute in Livigno.

Here some notes about the most relevant outcomes of the two days meeting.
ISIA Round table - 15th of June
• Presentation by R. Demetz on AMSI and the Italian bodies ruling Snowsports instructors in Italy
The good presentation highlighted the different competences of AMSI, Collegio Nazionale, FISI.
• Debate on new associations PSIC/PSIE. The ISIA Member CSIA presented the case of PSIC, new founded Canadian association directly competing against the ISIA Members, and their European equivalent PSIE. As per ISIA Code of conduct approved by the AD 2022 in Sexten, the Snowsports instructors “are required… to behave loyally towards the profession and the professional associations” (Par. 1.6). The foundation of such associations claiming to deliver professional qualifications and competing directly against the ISIA Members, is infringing the ISIA Code of conduct, allowing therefore ISIA and its Members to undertake suspension actions against those trainers and instructors that are actively cooperating with such parallel bodies.

Assembly of the Delegates - 17th of June
The Minutes of the AD are ready and will be online soon. Among the main topics discussed:
• The Delegates have agreed about the format of the Stamp for the Blue Level of the ISIA Pyramid. The template has to follow precise requirements that are modelled according to the example already applied in Spain by our Member AEPEDI.
• The most important news is Austria rejoining the ISIA Community. The Assembly approved VSLV as the representative Association of the Austrian Snowsports Instructors. The Board is pleased with the result achieved that is further strengthening the ISIA community.

ISIA forum and Interski
A first ISIA Regional Forum took place in Japan, last April 2024. Following such event, we have received expression of interest for ISIA Regional Forums in 2025 from Argentina, Italy and USA.
Further information will follow if the countries willing to host finalise their application.
The next ISIA World Forum is planned to be in Vail 2027 in coordination with Interski.

Work of the Technical Commission
One of the most frequent question the office receives, is about the dates of the ISIA Tests. We have to note that the info is always coming very late: we have solicited the Member nations willing to organise the ISIA Test to promptly notify the office and the TC, for faster info on the ISIA website.

New ISIA Card format
The new format for the ISIA Card has been presented in Livigno.
The new format is available only through the ISIA Office. Individual instructors meeting the ISIA Card specifications must contact their National Association, that will place the order at ISIA

ISIA DB of the Professional Snowsports Instructors
The ISIA database has now almost 34’500 registered Snowsports Instructors that are part of the exclusive Worldwide Professional Community. If you are a Professional Instructor, make sure you are up to date in the DB. If you are not, check why with your association.

ISIA AD 2024 - Livigno
The delegates from 26 nations worldwide met in Livigno the 15th and 16th of June, for a round table discussion and for the annual Assembly of the delegates. The meeting took place at the Hotel Alpen Resort, that provided the perfect service for such meeting.
The AD 2025 is planned to be next April in Vail!

ISIA AD 2024 BREAKING NEWS: AUSTRIA IS BACK!

One year after Italy, that rejoined ISIA at the ISIA AD 2023 in Levi with AMSI - Associazione Maestri Sci Italiani, now also Austria is back into the ISIA Community. The VSLV, presented by their Chairman Conny Berchtold, has been accepted as full ISIA Member by a wide majority during the Assembly of the Delegates 2024 that took place in Livigno, last Sunday 16th of June. With VSLV representing the Austrian Snowsports Instructors, now ISIA counts 39 Member Countries, confirming to be the biggest and most important Snowsports Instructors Association Worldwide.

A LIVIGNO L'ASSEMBLEA DEI DELEGATI ISIA 2024

➡️ AMSI comunica che nella giornata di domani sabato 15 e domenica 16 giugno nella località di Livigno (SO) avrà luogo l'importante e attesa Assemblea Delegati ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association) 2024.

➡️ Per l'Associazione Maestri Sci Italiani, co-organizzatrice con ISIA dell'Assemblea, questo appuntamento rappresenta un primo nonché concreto passaggio dopo lo scorso 29 marzo 2023, data durante la quale l'Assemblea Generale ISIA a Levi (FIN) ha deliberato il rientro di AMSI nell'organizzazione.

✅ Per AMSI - Scuola Italiana Sci, avere la possibilità di "raccontare" il nostro attuale contesto professionale e mettere in luce le peculiarità dell'insegnamento dello Sci (alpino e nordico) e dello Snowboard alle 38 Nazioni legate a ISIA (le quali seppur a latitudini diverse, dialogano tra loro attraverso un’importante rete di contatti) consente di rimanere concretamente aggiornati e informati. E non si parla “solo” di argomenti che fanno riferimento alla didattica, ai livelli d’insegnamento, al riconoscimento dei titoli esteri, materie in ogni caso di grande attualità e importanza per tutti noi, ma anche di temi quali flussi turistici internazionali, marketing, comunicazione, sostenibilità ed evoluzione dei materiali. Per conto di AMSI - Scuola Italiana Sci saranno presenti a Livigno il Presidente Nazionale Luciano Stampa e il Vice Presidente Robert Demetz.

✅ In occasione dell'imminente Assemblea dei Delegati ISIA 2024, la Presidenza e il Consiglio Direttivo AMSI Nazionale desiderano augurare buon lavoro, certi che le discussioni e deliberazioni contribuiranno in modo significativo al futuro della comunità internazionale dell'insegnamento degli sport su neve e allo sviluppo del settore sciistico in generale. Questa importante Assemblea, di cui AMSI è onorata di avere contribuito all'organizzazione nella località di Livigno, sia dunque un momento di proficua collaborazione, scambio di idee e consolidamento di obiettivi comuni.

The ISIA TC was in Hintertux visiting the courses of the Danish ISIA Member DAPSI, Danish Association of Professional Ski Instructors.
Congratulations to all the participants and the trainers, the courses are impressive for the good organisation and for the attention paid to skiing technique.

The first ISIA Regional Forum Asia Pacific took place in Japan, last 3.April-5.April.
It was an intense 3 days event, with great discussion and exchange of information.
The countries attending were Australia, Japan and Korea.
The next ISIA Regional Forum Asia Pacific is planned to be in Australia.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE ISIA BOARD

Following the request of some Members and Snowsports instructors, we are now willing to precise the position of ISIA towards new recently founded national and regional associations.
As per ISIA Statutes, only one Association per Member country is entitled to represent their Nation and to be Member in ISIA.
The Member for Canada is currently CSIA. No other Canadian association (f.i. PSIC), as per statutes, is going to be recognised by ISIA, nor their qualifications are going to obtain ISIA recognition.
ISIA Statutes do not allow regional Membership: regional Associations (f.i. PSIE) will not be recognised by ISIA nor their qualifications are going to obtain ISIA recognition.
For further information, please refer to the ISIA By-laws (§ 5 Membership and Annulment of Membership and § 7 Cessation of Membership).

ISIA goes Levi!
The International Ski Instructors Association puts sustainability in focus during the congress in Levi, Finland.

How to be more sustainable is the topic of the keynote lecture “Plastic and plastic waste management in Mountains and remote areas” on Friday, 31st March, led by Frank Moser, United Nations, that invites all ski instructors to engage with sustainability on a deeper level.

To call further attention to the importance of sustainability within the context of snowsport during the Interski Congress, ISIA provided jute bags for every ski instructor to pick up all waste that might have been accumulated in the mountains.

The Interski Congress takes place every four years and unites the best professional ski instructors worldwide. From 26th to 31st March, over 1.500 ski instructors from 35 countries meet in Levi, Lapland to share their knowledge, skills and innovative ideas to bring snowsport to its highest level.
