Last Thursday a group of our senior students headed to the EF office in Zurich for a masterclass with Hult International Business School.

Professor Ronan Gruenbaum came over from Hult’s London campus to run the session, titled “Build the Future: Launch a Business with AI & Robots”. The brief was simple to say and harder to do: in small teams, design a business that uses at least one robot from day one, then plan how it grows over five years.

Our team came up with a company called Pear and spent the hour working out what their robot would do, who would buy it and at what price. Each team then stood up and pitched their idea to the room, alongside students from Zurich International School and Inter-Community School.

It was a good taste of what university-style learning feels like: fast, collaborative and focused on real problems. Thank you to Isabella Salis and the Hult team for the invitation and for hosting us so well. We look forward to the next one 🤖

Every student arrives at a different point, so we start by looking at where they are now and which route will take them to the university they have in mind. Some join us having already completed their I/GCSEs and spend two years focusing on three I/A Levels, while others start at 15 with around six I/GCSEs in their first year before moving on to I/A Levels. Students aged 17 and over who are aiming for a Swiss university can take our 1-Year Fast Track, which combines three I/GCSEs and three I/A Levels within a single school year.

If you are still unsure which of these fits, a trial day is a good way to find out, as your child spends a normal school day with our students and teachers and we then plan the right route together.

Our student council elections recently took place at LIS, and we are happy to share that Zoe and Dennis have been elected as this year's student presidents. Both teams put a lot of work into their campaigns, preparing posters and presentations, and it was great to see so many students come together to listen to the candidates before casting their votes.

Zoe and Dennis built their campaign around making school an inclusive and safe place for everyone, with a strong focus on giving students a real say in the decisions that shape their everyday life at school. A big thank you also goes to Chloe, Aliana and Bernardo, who ran an impressive campaign of their own, with Aliana even designing a mascot for the school. We know Zoe and Dennis will be glad to have their ideas and support along the way, and we are looking forward to seeing what the new student council brings to school life over the coming months. 🗳️

Our students spent yesterday morning at Technopark Luzern, taking apart a fake news toolkit with CAUSE.

They were asked what should stay in the box and what is missing.

Keep the lie detector. Keep the board game. Add debates, add group work. And teach us how to spot AI-generated images and video.

The notes go into the next version.

Clubs are part of the timetable now, on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. This is a look at two of them.

Climbing takes two students at a time, one on the wall and one on the rope, so they end up looking after each other without anyone making a thing of it. Darts is down the corridor, a lot quieter, but the concentration is the same.

There are several more clubs running this term. We will show you those soon 🧗

Last Friday, ten of our students got a glimpse of the future. 🕶️

On 11 September, a group of LIS students visited the Immersive Realities Center at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU Hochschule Luzern) in Rotkreuz. HSLU was the first university in Switzerland to offer a Bachelor's degree in Immersive Technologies, which combines technology, psychology and design.

After an introduction to virtual and augmented reality, it was time to try it for themselves. Our students put on headsets, stepped into virtual worlds and reached out for objects only they could see. For many, it was a first look at a career path just a few minutes from school.

A big thank you to the HSLU team for opening their doors to us.

Back to School Night 2026

It was wonderful to welcome back familiar faces and see our newer families at their first Back to School Night last week.

Parents had the chance to meet our teachers and staff, and Founding Director Kamran Baig walked everyone through what's new at LIS this year.

We were also glad to welcome guest speakers Nicole Fellmann from arrive GmbH, who shared how they support our families settling into Switzerland, and Aaron Walsh from the Immersive Education, the Swiss organisation behind the Knowledge Token, a technology platform reshaping education. We're excited to be in early conversations about a future collaboration, watch this space!

The evening wrapped up with an apero, giving everyone a relaxed moment to chat and connect.

20 nationalities. 5 continents. 18 languages.

Our 2026/27 year has started in Root. Swiss, Swedish, British, Dutch, Ukrainian, Norwegian, American, German, Brazilian, Australian, Indian, Irish and more, all learning together in English.

Small enough that everyone knows everyone. International enough that nobody is the only one from somewhere else. That mix is not a marketing line for us, it is simply who walks through the door each morning.

Election season at LIS 🗳️ Our student council candidates are out in the halls campaigning, posters up, promises made. From vending machine requests to "no promises, only guarantees" campaign slogans, our students are learning what real leadership pitches look like.

Today, learning looked a little different ☀️

Our students headed out for lunch at the Street Food Park Festivals at the Mall of Switzerland. Bao buns, mochi ice cream, wok noodles, churros. Everyone found something to try, and a few favourites got shared around the table too.

Personalised education is also about having the flexibility to make space for experiences like these. Time outside the classroom, time together, and the freedom to enjoy a sunny afternoon as a school community.

Because school life is about more than what happens at a desk.
