Bienvenue sur la page officielle du Collège et Lycée Saint-Charles de Porrentruy, dans le canton du Jura, Suisse! Depuis 1897, le Collège et Lycée Saint-Charles transmet l’envie d’apprendre à des jeunes de tous horizons. Nous formons aujourd’hui plus de deux cents élèves, de la 6ème année HarmoS à la maturité fédérale. Nous mettons un accent sur l'apprentissage des langues, allemand et anglais, dè

s le plus jeune âge dans des classes à petits effectifs. Concernés par l’avenir de nos élèves, nous les préparons à leur future carrière en leur proposant des cursus répondant aux voies de formation actuelles. Soucieux de leur orientation, nous leur offrons un soutien actif dans la recherche de leur propre chemin. Nos élèves passent, en fin de 11e année HarmoS, le Certificat des Ecoles Catholiques suisses, premier titre attestant d'un parcours secondaire exigeant. Attentifs à l’épanouissement de nos étudiants, nous avons choisi à Saint-Charles de décliner le cursus du lycée sur quatre années d’études. Nous délivrons des certificats de maturité gymnasiale reconnus par la Commission suisse de maturité et validés par les experts de la Commission cantonale de maturité du Canton du Jura. Ce précieux sésame ouvre à nos élèves les portes de toutes les Universités, des Ecoles polytechniques fédérales et des Hautes écoles spécialisées. Le choix d’une filière d’étude après l’école obligatoire est important et parfois difficile à faire. Les études gymnasiales avec options offrent à nos jeunes étudiants une palette de possibilités enrichissantes et tiennent compte des affinités de chacun. For boarding students, mornings begin on campus before lessons, followed by lunch and an afternoon that may include study, sport, activities or individual commitments. Evenings become quieter, with time for homework, friends and preparation for the next day.

Saint-Charles also brings together two parts of our community: local Swiss students who attend as day students and international students living in boarding. They may follow different academic pathways, but sports, activities and school events give them plenty of opportunities to spend time together.

It creates a school environment that feels both distinctly Swiss and genuinely international.

Swiss boarding schools can look surprisingly similar on paper: beautiful settings, international communities and strong academics. The differences become clearer when you look at how a student would actually spend their years there.

At Saint-Charles, there is no single route every student is expected to follow. Depending on their academic profile, language and future plans, students can work towards the IB Diploma, Swiss Maturité or Saint-Charles High School Diploma.

Our smaller scale makes personal attention possible, but the world around each student is anything but limited. More than 35 clubs and activities give them room to explore interests beyond the classroom, while a full programme of weekend trips, sport, cultural experiences and outdoor challenges takes school life well beyond the campus.

Saint-Charles is also a bilingual French-English community, bringing together students from more than 40 countries. For boarding students, that international experience continues at home, with a team around them that provides support while gradually encouraging greater independence.

And for some students, school can be shaped around a very particular ambition, whether that means university preparation, developing a creative or technical interest, or continuing serious equestrian training alongside their education.

Saint-Charles has been educating young people in Porrentruy since 1897. Today, what defines the school is not one single programme or facility, but how all of these elements work together around the individual student.

Horse riding can be part of life at Saint-Charles whether a student is getting into the saddle for the first time or already has years of experience 🐎

Students can ride at different levels, while those who want to take their sport further can combine their studies with more intensive training through the Saint-Charles Horse Riding Academy.

Through our partnership with Écurie Chevenez, experienced riders have access to professional coaching and facilities for jumping and dressage, with opportunities to participate in competitions.

And for some of our students, moving to Switzerland doesn’t mean leaving their horse behind. Individual programmes can include facilities and care for students who bring their own horses.

A rather special way to combine education and a passion for riding in Switzerland. 🇨🇭

Yesterday our students took the train to Glovelier and continued from there on foot, hiking through the Jura all the way to Saint-Ursanne🇨🇭

The route took around 2.5 hours and it was a real challenge! Parts of the hike took the group through the hills and demanded a fair bit of energy along the way.

But that’s also what made it such a good day out: walking together, helping each other through the harder stretches and eventually reaching Saint-Ursanne on foot.

Not every activity needs to be complicated. Sometimes a pair of walking shoes, a challenging route and good company are enough 💛

Did you see our recent post about all the different ways weekends can look at Saint-Charles?

Well, last weekend our students had another one to add to the list: a trip to an adventure park in the beautiful Swiss city of Neuchâtel!🇨🇭

With professional instructors, safety equipment and plenty of encouragement from each other, the students made their way through different obstacle courses up in the trees.

It was a chance to work on coordination and balance, face a fear of heights, help each other through the trickier parts and simply spend some good time together outside school.

A healthy and genuinely fun way to spend a weekend, get to know each other a little better and do something that’s good for both physical and emotional wellbeing.

What are weekends like at boarding school in Switzerland? 🇨🇭

One weekend might mean paddleboarding in Interlaken. Another might involve skis and snowboards in Hoch-Ybrig or Grindelwald. There have been trips to Lake Como, afternoons at an adventure park in the Jura, plenty of sport and, occasionally, weekends spent a little closer to school.

Saint-Charles is based in Porrentruy, in north-west Switzerland, with France and Germany within easy reach. It gives our students plenty of opportunities to discover Switzerland and explore beyond it throughout the school year.

A new school year begins at Saint-Charles today, bringing familiar faces back to campus and welcoming new students into our community.

For families choosing a boarding school, academic programmes, location and opportunities naturally matter. But there is another factor that can have a surprisingly big impact on a student’s everyday experience: the size of the school.
