From a personal question to a career in ECG analytics.

During his Joint MSc in Biomedical Engineering, Victor Gutgesell had the freedom to pursue his own ideas, turning one of them into a semester project and later his Master’s thesis.

Today, he works as Senior Project Lead ECG Analytics at ACE Health, in the very field he discovered during his studies.

Wie kann Licht dabei helfen, eine Kaiserschnittnarbe während einer Operation präzise zu lokalisieren?

Dieser Frage ging Celine Gutmann in ihrer Bachelor-Thesis in Medizintechnik nach. Am Universitätsspital Zürich untersuchte sie, wie Licht gesundes Gewebe und Narbengewebe durchdringt. Ihre Ergebnisse fliessen in die Weiterentwicklung eines medizinischen Instruments ein, das operative Eingriffe gezielter unterstützen soll.

Und das Projekt ging weiter: Celine begleitete die Forschung auch während ihres Masterstudiums und später als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Hochschule für Life Sciences FHNW.

Wo geht Wasser in einer Stadt verloren? Und wie lässt sich die Trinkwasserversorgung fit für den Klimawandel machen?

Genau daran arbeiten Forschende des Instituts für Ecopreneurship an der Hochschule für Life Sciences FHNW (HLS) gemeinsam mit der Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Peru. Mit dem Wasserflussdiagramm werden komplexe Wassersysteme sichtbar gemacht und Schwachstellen aufgedeckt. So entsteht eine wichtige Grundlage für eine sichere Wasserversorgung von morgen.

«Das Wasserflussdiagramm hilft dabei, komplexe Wassersysteme verständlich darzustellen und fundierte Entscheidungen für eine nachhaltige Wasserversorgung zu treffen», sagt Patrik Eckert, wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Forschungsgruppe Wasser, Sanitärversorgung und Hygiene (WASH) am Institut für Ecopreneurship der HLS.

Forschende, Wasserversorger und Hochschulen entwickeln gemeinsam Lösungen, die direkt vor Ort eingesetzt werden können.
«Die enge Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis schafft Lösungen, die unmittelbar vor Ort eingesetzt werden können und gleichzeitig langfristig Wirkung entfalten», ergänzt Patrik Eckert.
