Die Hauptdozenten an der VASB sind Charles Blockey und Fredy Buchwalder. Beide haben an der Assenza Malschule studiert und sie nach dem Tod Assenzas weitergeführt, bis 2011 die Schule geschlossen wurde. Mit dem Wunsch, die Bedürfnisse junger Menschen in ihr Studienprogramm einzubeziehen und die Methode in einen zeitgenössischen Kontext zu bringen, eröffneten sie im gleichen Jahr die Visual Art Sc

hool Basel. Neben dem Hauptschwerpunkt Malerei/ Zeichnung wendet sich das Studium an der VASB erweiterten Bereichen zu wie Druckgraphik, Installation, Film und Performance. Eine tragende Idee der VASB ist das Bewusst werden sozialer Prozesse durch die Auseinandersetzung mit Kunst. Praktika während des Studiums bereiten vor für den Beruf des Kunsterziehers, des Kunsttherapeuten und des Kunstmalers. Kunst kann zum Lebensweg werden und ist eine Bildung der Persönlichkeit für jede berufliche Richtung. In 2011, our art school was founded to bring Beppe Assenza’s painting method into a contemporary context, as well as to integrate the needs of young people into our Study Programme. The main lecturers and founders of the school Charles Blockey and Fredy Buchwalder, after 25 years as principal teachers at the Assenza Art School, both have wide experience which ensures highest standards.The school is situated in the Walzwerk Münchenstein - an ideal location which already has a creative, artistic flair. As well as acquiring painting and drawing skills, it is of central importance to us that the VASB is a place where individual development has priority – disrespective of age and background. Currently we teach in three languages, German, English and French, and as such complement traditional art schools.
