Throwback to this time last week: Year 5's "LEGO Design Challenge", centred on the theme "Building What Connects Us." Working in small teams, the students put their cooperation and communication "superpowers" to the test as they designed and constructed 3D models representing something that the whole group had in common.
Guided by a teaching team whose constant warmth and support created an incredibly encouraging environment, every group shared resources, listened actively, and cheered each other on through every stage of the design process.
The supportive, collaborative atmosphere made the challenge a resounding success, culminating in a vibrant "Gallery Walk" and self-reflection on Toddle.
Not only was the "world's cutest crab" built (pictured) alongside a series of other creative structures, but every single group worked seamlessly together to achieve their goal. Through mutual respect, active listening, and collective problem-solving, the students walked away with a deeper appreciation for their peers' unique ideas and a genuine understanding of what it takes to build strong connections.
The world's cutest crab may indeed have been built in ISL primary school that day. But - and thanks to the crystal clear guidelines, structure and support delivered by their teachers - our Year 5 students achieved something even better: harmonious, constructive teamwork. Well done, Year 5 - we hope that the collaborative skills you honed stay with you, and that you remember that we can always find common ground through discussion.
