Jo Taillieu is a Belgian architect and professor at EPFL / studio LIF. After early roles at leading European architecture firms, including Maxwan architects (Rotterdam, NL) and Beel-Achtergael architecten (Ghent, BE), he became project director at Stéphane Beel – Xaveer De Geyter, contributing to the design and realisation of several public and private buildings. He later co-led architecten de vylder vinck taillieu, earning international recognition, including the Silver Lion for Promising Young Participant at the 16th Biennale of Venice, before refocusing on his own practice, JTA, from 2019 onward. JTA is worldwide published and awarded.

What makes for a good learning environment for young people? The presentation on the Chliriet Secondary School explores how spatial layout, landscape, architectural design, and color schemes can shape everyday school life. The long, narrow wooden building frames a spacious schoolyard featuring the existing multipurpose hall. The classrooms face the open landscape, while the hallways and group rooms offer views of the schoolyard. The colorful interior creates a vibrant and distinctive learning environment.

Elli Mosayebi’s career is defined by the close relationship between practice, research, and teaching. Since 2004, she has co-directed the Zurich-based office EMI Architekt*innen with Ron Edelaar and Christian Inderbitzin. In 2018, she was appointed Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zurich. Her research focuses on load-bearing natural stone construction and the transformation of housing and residential architecture. These themes also shape her architectural practice, which links design research to changing social, cultural, and material conditions in contemporary architecture and building.

We are thrilled to welcome our new and returning guest studio teachers for the 2026–27 academic year at EPFL Architecture: Marta Peris and José Toral (Peris+Toral, Barcelona), and Charlotte Truwant and Dries Rodet (Truwant + Rodet +, Basel), teaching in the 2nd Bachelor; and Marta Benedicto, Ivet Gasol and Carlota de Gispert (Cierto Estudio, Barcelona), Susanne Eliasson (Grau, Paris), Anna MacIver-Ek and Axel Chevroulet (MacIver-Ek Chevroulet, Zurich/Neuchâtel/Lausanne), Marc Loeliger and Barbara Strub (Loeliger Strub, Zurich), Carla Ferrando and Pablo Garrido (Parabase, Zurich/Barcelona), Romina Grillo and Liviu Vasiu (Grillo Vasiu, Switzerland), and Christian Weyell and Kai Zipse (Weyell Zipse, Basel), teaching in the 3rd Bachelor and 1st Master.

Across their different practices, a number of shared questions emerge: how to transform and work with the existing, how to make better use of materials and resources, how housing can support collective life, and how architecture can connect buildings, landscape and the city. Their work spans architecture, housing, landscape, urbanism, research, design and installation, with approaches ranging from reuse and transformation to experimentation with form, material and construction. Together, they offer students a rich range of positions on what architecture can do today and how it can respond to the realities of our built environment.

We look forward to the projects, conversations and exchanges that will take place in the studios this year.

What if robots didn’t replace people, but worked alongside us to conceive, plan and build architecture? While digitalisation is reshaping the built environment, most efforts have centered on automation and substitution, with little real impact on how we design or build. The talk argues that adaptability - not automation - is the key to sustainable architectural and construction impact. It highlights autonomous systems that adjust structural and spatial strategies in real time, and human-robot interaction models that keep human judgment central.

Stefana Parascho is an architect, researcher, and educator exploring the intersection of architecture, robotics, and computational design. She is an Assistant Professor at EPFL and head of the Lab for Creative Computation. Her work focuses on human-robot collaboration, robotic construction, and accessible digital tools. She holds a PhD from ETH Zurich and taught at Princeton University.

Aude Billard is a full professor and head of the LASA laboratory at EPFL, and a pioneer in machine learning and human-robot interaction. She is President-elect of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and an IEEE Fellow, with numerous prestigious awards including the Intel Teaching Award and IEEE RAS Distinguished Award.

AUTUMN 2026

LEARNING VOL.1
We are told that learning is no longer confined to the school or the university, but it has become a continuous process that involves the totality of life. Yet in accepting this reality, we take for granted several questions that loom large within the contemporary idea of learning. In a time when technology and information are ubiquitous, does it still make sense that for learning to happen or be confined within a place? Is learning still an asymmetrical relationship where there are teachers and a student? And above all, is learning accessible, or has it become too expensive a commodity? In this lecture series, we’ll attempt to answer these questions by investigating learning on different levels such as technology, construction systems, educational spaces, and above all, making architecture. Indeed, the question that is more than anything else crucial to us is whether architecture is still a place of learning and not only of empowering those who have capital to build it. We will look at schools, drawings, robots, and measuring devices. We will ponder whether these things are only ‘tools’ to achieve a result or can still be vital places for learning.

The publication of “Order and Disorder: Selected Essays and Interviews by Manfredo Tafuri 1964–1994” marks the first volume in a book series initiated by the Laboratory of Theory and Project of Domestic Space at .

Edited by , , , and , the anthology brings together selected essays and interviews by one of the most influential architectural historians and theorists of the twentieth century.

Covering ’s career from 1964 to 1994, the volume presents the wide scope of his work, with many texts translated into English for the first time. Including more than 700 images and a biographical essay by Tafuri's wife Letizia Rapisarda, the book explores Tafuri’s writings on architectural ideology, capitalist development, the Soviet avant-garde, Renaissance urbanism, and architects such as Giulio Romano, Le Corbusier, Aldo Rossi, and Carlo Scarpa.

Part 2 Master Projects 2026

The projects revealed a wide range of positions and methods. Developed independently, they nevertheless converged around shared concerns for contemporary architecture, engaging with questions of territory and public space, housing, industrial and cultural heritage, and architecture in mountain environments.
