Top 10 racing venues in the World! No. 5 - Hyères, France
2016 Melges 24 European Championship
Hyères is a great place to sail; the racing is epic. The easterly and mistral wind bring two different type of sailing conditions. Eastery *Graveyard* conditions, big waves and 20+ knots. The mistral brings flat water and 25 + knots.
The 2016 European Championship was special because it was a big team effort. I think what makes this regatta extra special is we had many mistakes, but we kept our eyes forward and kept fighting. Would you like to know the mistakes?
> Almost losing our motor. Thanks to our awesome Melges 24 fleet, someone saved it from swimming after hours during a rough med-mooring setup.
>Our rudder being smashed against the wall during med-mooring (yes, after this we reconfigured)
>Remembering *after* the first race of day 2 to pull on the tension of the headstay.
>Derigging the boat, finding that the headstay was holding together by 2 wire strands.
So why did we win? Our Shore Team.
Antonella was a dream in the kitchen. Having dinner on the table shortly after coming home from a day of sailing is a game-changer. The amount of brainpower needed to either figure out where to eat or going shopping to make something is A LOT.
Kati was a hero by taking care of the kids. It is a hard job to stay onshore with restless kids, with the sailing team's unpredictable schedule.
A hard-working team; Matteo, Nikolai, Dani, Pade
