• Module I – Statistical definitions (or conjectures)
• Population VS Sample
• Estimators of Moments of a Distribution (expectation, variance, std, covariance, correlation)
• Evaluating estimators (bias, Mean Squared Error, Efficiency)
• Defining estimators (Method of moments and Maximum Likelihood Approach)
• Module II – Statistical tests
• Hypothesis testing (Student t-test, uni and bilateral test, confidence intervals, )
The science of statistics has some powerful and wide effects on everyone. From the food industry to the medical one, to more subtle elements as the air we breathe or the bridges we cross each day, statistics can really help us improve the quality of our life (by influencing in every single aspect of it).
The science of statistics deals with contingency and variability.
They are both inseparable parts of our life and all sciences. Defining the concerning contingency (uncertainty) helps understand the variability of different measurements.
To start with statistics we have to be able to make a distinction between population and samples as the estimations of the population derive from the calculations done on the sample moments under certain assumptions. The accuracy of the sample moments and the sample itself makes us take into account the error term so that in the end, we are able to comment and understand the results.
