⛈️ What happens if you're stuck in a major storm and lose connectivity?

The torrential rains that battered northern and central Chile last week caused some of the worst floods in the country's history.

Desafío Levantemos Chile, a CBI Member Network, deployed the very next day to reach communities that had been cut off, helping to restore power through their alliance with national service provider entel.

Not only that, but Desafío leveraged their Business-led Emergency Operations Center (BEOC), which travels on four wheels throughout the country, to support emergency response if and as needed. (Check it out in the visuals below!)

Shout out to our colleagues at the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) for developing a BEOC model that's so inspiring that it is being replicated across continents to save lives.

🛫 In a crisis, airports can be a choking point - or they can be a catalyst, enabling access. The difference between those two situations can be summarized in a single word: ✨preparedness✨.

Earlier this year in the Philippines, a 6th airport - Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila - underwent the "Get Airports Ready for Disasters" (GARD) programme offered by DHL and the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP with the support of the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation.

It's no small task, as it requires bringing together airport staff, government officials, humanitarian organisations, and private sector representatives.

It may not be glamorous work, but it saves lives.

“The Philippines has been a lighthouse example in the region on how public-private partnerships can come to life. The conversations we had during the recent GARD workshop in Manila reflect the country’s ambitions to ensure that its critical infrastructure remains ready during times of disasters. We are looking forward to working with UNDP and PDRF to bring GARD to the next stage within the country.” - Rod Freemann, DHL Group GoHelp Co-Lead, Asia Pacific

🌊When it comes to climate adaptation, climate financing, and even climate diplomacy, the Pacific is making waves.

In our latest piece, an interview by Sadhana Mohan of Pricilla Ram from the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF), you can learn more about the ✨Pacific Resilience Facility✨(PRF) and how it will be a vehicle for greater meaningful and strategic private sector participation in resilience-building.

PRF goals include to:
💪simplify access to resilience financing,
💪strengthen local implementation,
💪support preparedness rather than only post-disaster recovery, and
💪ensure resilience investments reach communities, local organisations, and vulnerable sectors directly.

Our partners at FCEF's Fiji Business Disaster Resilience Council are supporting the political process, encouraging Parliament to ratify the PRF agreement, support micro-, small, and medium-enterprises (MSME) friendly financing windows, promote preparedness and risk reduction, and recognize the private sector as a resilience partner.

What do you think of this kind of model?

Would it be relevant to your region?

What does💥RESILIENCE💥mean to you?

A few weeks ago, we had our Private Sector Resilience Forum, a virtual event bringing together more than 25 experts across 7 sessions for honest conversations about supply chain resilience, climate leadership, governance, innovation for crisis preparedness, mental health in crises, hurricane preparedness, and more.

Here are some of our favorite quotes and take-aways, though whittling those 10 hours of inspiring content to just a few minutes was one of the harder assignments we've had.

Thank you to the whole CBI community for showing up like they did - this lies at the heart of who we are, why we exist, and how we do things: together, with intention, and always always focusing on the people.

Ever wonder what the big deal about "coordination" is? Why is it so important, and couldn't things in emergencies work just fine without it?

It's true that it's the kind of work where, if done right, you barely notice it. It takes dedication, patience, persistence, and a set of skills not everyone possesses.

It's a bit like an orchestra director who takes a bunch of musicians playing in the same space and turns their individual notes into a symphony of emotion.

When CBI sends a private sector focal point to support an emergency response, as we did for Hurricane Melissa, what they do is coordination. It ensures that businesses, the UN, and the government work together in complementary ways, avoiding duplication and confusion.

If you're curious to read more about what that means, a recent interview with CBI's Carol Sanchez sheds some light on the matter. L!nk below in the comments!

⚠️Below, 3️⃣ ways YOU can get involved!⚠️

Following the M7.8 earthquake 🫨 in the Philippines, the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, CBI's Member Network in the country, has activated its Emergency Operations Center and is coordinating private sector support alongside government and humanitarian partners.

Businesses have mobilized hot meals, drinking water, connectivity support, relief items, and logistics assistance for affected communities - the image below shows One Meralco Foundation distributing 1,000 relief packs and 289 water gallons through St. Elizabeth Hospital in General Santos City.

What can you do (as an individual or through your organization)?

1️⃣ Visit the CBI emergency page for the latest updates and information on how businesses are supporting the response: https://bit.ly/PHL-EQ-Maasim

2️⃣ Join the virtual briefing by PDRF on Monday 15 June 2026, 10:00–11:00 AM (PHT) to get field updates, damage assessments, and immediate needs. Register here: https://bit.ly/PDRF-EQMassim-briefing

3️⃣ If your organization is ALREADY providing support or sending contributions, make sure they are reported - via PDRF or directly through us. If you have questions about how to do that, reach out. That's what we're here for!

Oh, and 4️⃣ please ‼️SHARE this post ‼️so the algorithm doesn't bury it (it will if you don't!).
