What does it take to move ✨from recovery to resilience✨?

During a recent deployment in Venezuela, CBI's Elisa Trujillo witnessed how private sector engagement can help transform recovery into lasting resilience.

Businesses in Venezuela have been stepping up as key partners in the earthquake response, but also with an eye on rebuilding and recovery, to ensure that efforts dovetail with the country being better prepared for a future crisis.

Here are her four lessons:

💡 Start thinking of the private sector as a long-term solution partner, not just a donor.

💡 Leave capacity behind.

Preparedness pays off. Acting before disaster strikes helps protect people, operations, supply chains and communities.

On the ⚠️International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction ⚠️, more than 300 participants joined our webinar with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) to discuss how businesses can prepare for the anticipated impacts of the 2026/27 El Niño.

The discussion highlighted practical approaches to resilience, with insights from Veronica Gabaldon and Ralph Cedric Cabate (PDRF), Laurent Giezendanner (Syngenta Group and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Corporate Chief Resilience Officers Network) and Shem Jose Garcia (Vivant Foundation) on strengthening preparedness through collaboration, risk-informed decision-making, data and forecasting tools and innovative business-led resilience solutions.

We were also pleased to launch "Ready for Floods: A Practical Guide for Businesses", developed with CBI Member Networks and drawing on the experiences of PDRF and Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL).

Designed for businesses of all sizes, this critical resource provides practical steps to protect people, premises, data and income before, during and after floods.

Because no business should prepare alone.

A very strong El Niño is on its way. Is your business ready?

El Niño this year is expected to strike hard, with impacts lasting into 2027. Some regions face drought and extreme heat, others heavy rain and flooding. For businesses, that means risks to water, power, supply chains, staff and customers.

Turns out the advice goes both ways - these5️⃣tips are ways in which funding partners can contribute to crisis resilience, too:

A few weeks ago, we were honored to welcome the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) into the CBI community as our 23rd Member Network.

The vision? To enable more structured private sector engagement in humanitarian preparedness, response and resilience in Pakistan.

Some of their goals include

✨ Mapping private sector resources and expertise against humanitarian priorities

✨ Establishing national and provincal coordination platform with focal points across in different regions

✨ Orientation sessions and simulation exercises to reinforce relationships and procedures before the next emergency

Thank you to then Humanitarian Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, and FPCCI Vice President Ms. Qurrat-ul-Ain for bringing this partnership to life.

🌊When it comes to climate adaptation, climate financing, and even climate diplomacy, the Pacific is making waves.

In our latest piece, an interview by Sadhana Mohan of Pricilla Ram from the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF), you can learn more about the ✨Pacific Resilience Facility✨(PRF) and how it will be a vehicle for greater meaningful and strategic private sector participation in resilience-building.

PRF goals include to:
💪simplify access to resilience financing,
💪strengthen local implementation,
💪support preparedness rather than only post-disaster recovery, and
💪ensure resilience investments reach communities, local organisations, and vulnerable sectors directly.

Our partners at FCEF's Fiji Business Disaster Resilience Council are supporting the political process, encouraging Parliament to ratify the PRF agreement, support micro-, small, and medium-enterprises (MSME) friendly financing windows, promote preparedness and risk reduction, and recognize the private sector as a resilience partner.

A few weeks ago, we had our Private Sector Resilience Forum, a virtual event bringing together more than 25 experts across 7 sessions for honest conversations about supply chain resilience, climate leadership, governance, innovation for crisis preparedness, mental health in crises, hurricane preparedness, and more.

Here are some of our favorite quotes and take-aways, though whittling those 10 hours of inspiring content to just a few minutes was one of the harder assignments we've had.
