Yesterday was a powerful day.
We were able to create a safe and inclusive space for our community to come together and reflect.
Reflect on the lives of our sisters and siblings lost to violence with tears in our eyes.
Reflect on our daily fight to protect ourselves, our friends, our fellow humans from this violence.
Reflect on how perverse this daily fight is, and how exhausted we are from fighting it and still be counting deaths and victims in unbelievable numbers.
Reflect on how short-lasting our protest, our safe space is, with respect to millenia of uninterrupted fight for our lives.
Reflect on our determination to finally interrupt an ancestral cycle of struggle and pain.
And, after much reflecting, realize that we will put an end to that cycle.
Because the end of our protest was all but the end of our fight for justice.
We will fight to, one day, stop fighting, for Sarah and for all.

The Feminist Collective and GISA are calling for a vote from the IHEID student body to approve the community-wide endorsement of a solidarity statement against the Anti-Burqa Initiative, also known as "L'Interdiction de se Dissimuler le Visage".
This political initiative, which will be voted on in a Switzerland-wide referendum on March 7, proposes an amendment to the Swiss Confederation's constitution banning the wearing of burqa and niqab on Swiss territory.
The Feminist Collective opposes the initiative and has released a solidarity statement, which we now want to bring to the attention of the whole student body.
HOW TO VOTE? 📮
Check your IHEID e-mail address and look for the e-mail titled "24 hours VOTE: Social Movements Endorsements".
Click on the link to vote, read our solidarity statement and vote YES!
Don't forget to do the same for QISA's solidarity statement with the Turkish LGBTQI+ community.
You'll find resources and readings on both situations in the voting form.
Voting ends at 19:45 today - don't miss the chance to express your solidarity! 💪🏻

As part of the Gender and Diversity Month at the Institute, the Feminist Collective and Whxteness will be hosting an online seminar and conversation on the relationship between whiteness, racism and the feminist movement.
The discussion will retrace the historical roots of the feminist movement and its systematic erasure of black, brown and indigenous women’s experiences.
We will talk about the perceived whiteness of the suffragette movement, and the perceived sexual liberation of white women in the 60's and 70's, a time where women of color and indigenous women were being forcibly sterilised.
Our historical overview will also touch upon the movement, which was overwhelmingly white despite being started by a black woman.
We will tackle the way black women were constructed as objects during slavery and how this still informs present-day stereotypes.
We will talk about the concrete ways through which white feminists contribute to and maintain white supremacy.
Finally, we will be learning about the ways authors are suggesting to decolonize feminism.
Whxteness is an online platform run by Lisa and Iseult, two friends educating white people on race issues.

Welcome to the Feminist Collective, a platform for engagement with feminist issues both in and outside of our IHEID community. In collaboration with The Graduate Press, we’ll be also be publishing a biweekly column, “Feminist Voices.” Check out our first piece below about why it is crucial that feminist voices and perspectives are uplifted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why Feminist Voices are necessary during the COVID-19 pandemics
