Recyclage du plastique à la GBS avec l'impression 3D...
The first perpetual plastic project in Switzerland !
GBS had the pleasure to welcome all students and staff to visit Plastic Recycling & 3D Printing on 19th of May 2014.
Plastic is a valuable (and finite) resource. So how can it happen that less than 10% of the plastics worldwide get recycled? Manufacturers often do not want to use recycled plastics because their production process is not adapted to it. This leads to local economies throwing the plastic on a landfill or burning it in an incinerator. This not the fault of the consumer.
Perpetual Plastic Project make an intervention with installation, bypassing current waste management systems. The installation gives people an incentive to hand in their waste: a cup for a ring! Now, the seemingly worthless plastic has been transformed into something that has more lasting value. And the person that made his own ring has forever changed his mind about plastic products.
Perpetual Plastic Project is reinventing the way plastic products are made and fundamentally change the relationship people have with these products. What if this installation could permanently stay in the city where we took it? Consumers could return broken or outdated product to the store and have them re-made. By recycling these products locally it will finally unlock the true potential of 3d-printing.
