MONTREAL — Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have been unwittingly exposed to high levels of lead in their drinking water, with contamination in several cities consistently higher than they ever were in Flint, Michigan, according to an investigation that tested drinking water in hundreds of homes and reviewed thousands more previously undisclosed results.
Lead - A heavy toxic metal, the high content of which in the blood allows you to identify acute or chronic lead poisoning - saturnism.
The main “target” of lead is the central nervous system. In children, due to the imperfect development of the blood-brain barrier, it penetrates into the nervous tissue much faster than in adults. Lead intoxication affects the formation of hearing and vision, causes developmental delay, persistent disorders of neuropsychic functions and behavior, and a decrease in mental abilities.
It accumulates in the kidneys - it can be excreted up to 300 years !!
Also recommended:
1. Lead in urine
2. General blood test (without leukocyte formula and ESR)
Who prescribes the study?
Occupational pathologist, neurologist, toxicologist, resuscitator, therapist, pediatrician.
