Pipes have their ways explore how sound, air and architecture can become a shared experience.
An installation designed as a playful, civic ritual, where simple gestures activate soundscapes shaped by the surrounding space.
By combining ancient pipe organ techniques with contemporary DIY methods, turns everyday construction materials into a living infrastructure for air and sound.
PVC pipes, hoses and valves become interfaces — inviting the body to engage, push, pull, and listen.
This approach resonates strongly with the vision of the Master Visual Knowledge: working at the intersection of research, material experimentation and embodied experience, where systems, histories and gestures are recomposed to create new forms of meaning.
A way of thinking — and feeling — through making.

In recognition of the program’s evolution and broader scope, the course has undergone a name change. Originally titled Space & Communication, the program was initially focused on scenography and signage practices. However, over the past sixteen years, the curriculum has expanded to include multimedia, photography, architecture, film, and performance. As a result, the program directors determined that the old name no longer accurately reflected the evolving focus. The new title, Design Installation, encapsulates the core areas of the program—spatial design and the production of installations—while inviting a broader dialogue on multi-media and transdisciplinary design. This shift reflects the program’s commitment to preparing students for dynamic careers in a variety of design-related fields.

Our 1st-year students exhibit at the Soleil-s Biennial at the MUDAC.
For Soleil-s, 7 eschatological dioramas were created: meticulously crafted, each depicts the disappearance of the sun - the spectacle of its demise, the privatization of its light, the original soup, zero gravity where mutating species roam, the last inhabitant-e-x-s, degenerative AIs, dystopias, and so on.
The formalization of this project revisits Frances Glessner Lee’s famous Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death, the meticulously crafted crime scene models from the mid-twentieth century with which she invented forensic medicine.

Gross Encounters: One-Night Fright Festival
Thursday November 16th 2023, 8pm till late
Join us for a dreadful evening of talks, performances, screenings and sonic expressions in which we celebrate and think through Barbara Creed’s defining of the ‘monstrous feminine’ trope in horror cinema and its socio-political ramifications.
The evening is hosted by the Gross Encounters film club, Espace Dukat and students from HEAD’s Space and Communication department, and generously supported by artists and designers from collectif Kimera and HEAD-Genève.
Place:
Espace Dukat
Avenue Cardinal-Mermillod 21 Carouge 1227
Geneva
One-Night Fright Festival programme:
-Ervehea Ziza talk will explore the notion of ‘ugliness’ and its representation in the horror genre by applying an intersectional feminist perspective.
-The Monstrous Feminine collective members (MonFem Pod) will be presenting a visual essay engaging with the seven ‘faces’ of the monstrous-feminine as analyzed by Barbara Creed and will offer perspectives that go beyond certain problematic theoretical tethers in Creed’s work.
-Julie Cail will be live on stage, creating the sound effects for a chosen iconic monstrous feminine horror sequence.
-The collectif Kimera will host the Gross Encounters festival and develop a scenography in partnership with students from the master Space & communication.
