Migration is one of the most debated global issues
Too often, migration policy is shaped by political narratives rather than evidence. Our new online course Navigating Migration Governance, designed and taught by Professor Vincent Chetail, is built to change that.
Over four weeks, participants will gain a structured, critical understanding of how migration policies are really made, and the practical tools to analyse, design, and engage with migration governance in their own work.

Is international cooperation dying?
« International cooperation and humanitarian aid are currently facing a level of contestation not seen for decades. » In a new article originally published in Globe, Alexandre Dormeier Freire, Dominique Rossier, and Maria Liliana Soler-Gómez Lutzelschwab argue that this is not a resource problem, but clearly a political one.
One of the main drivers of this contraction lies in the security-oriented narratives and nationalist shift of several countries that had long been pillars of international cooperation. More broadly, liberal democracies are facing a genuine crisis of their own model, a crisis that is eroding the possibility of consensus on major issues.

On 4 May, the Maison de la Paix hosted an evening in defence of those who risk everything to tell the truth.
Organised by the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation in partnership with the Geneva Graduate Institute, the City of Geneva, and Le Temps, the event marked World Press Freedom Day and the awarding of the 2026 Kofi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award.
Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz delivered the keynote, drawing a sharp parallel between press freedom, academic freedom, and the health of democracy, before offering three sobering lessons from what he described as the "quick erosion of democracy in the United States."
A powerful evening, and a reminder that defending freedom of expression is not just a cause for one day a year.
