Dear Teacher,

As a student of color, I would like you to listen to me. As I grow into adulthood and increasingly see the world as the hostile place it can be, I want you to make my education a safe space. I want to feel like school is where I can be sheltered from discrimination, and from looks, actions, and words I may have to face outside every day.

Tell your Black children that with an ethnic name and textured hair in braids that they are like the new Supreme Court Justice Kitanji Brown Jackson. She did not make it because racism is a thing of the past, we all saw it in action. She made it to the top because she had a strong sense of self and stood firm in the face of her detractors. It shouldn't be that way. It is that way even when you have Ivy League degrees and a stellar work history. Know your worth. We see you. 💜
