Applied Statistics And Modelling ASAM Group

Applied Statistics And Modelling ASAM Group The researches of the group and its expertise are focused in different and varied fields in applied statistics and econometrics.

Welcome to the page of the Applied Statistics And Modelling ASAM group of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, a leading group in teaching and research in Statistics. The ASAM group (Applied Statistics And Modelling) belongs to the Department of Informatics of the University of Fribourg in Switzerland and offers courses in statistics, probabilit

y, and applied econometrics. In survey statistics, we are regularly involved in projects such as the conception of sample design, sampling, the management of surveys and complex surveys data analyses. On the other hand we have done works and studies in some particular topics of data analysis, e.g. treatment of missing values, matching methods or treatment effect evaluation. In our econometric projects, our interest is in hedonic regression methods and hedonic price indices, in differential wages decomposition and in discrimination wage analysis. Finally, fuzzy statistical methods and their application in complex surveys draw also our attention.

🌟 Thrilled to Announce Our Latest Publication! 🌟

The ASAM group is delighted to share that the paper, “Generalisation of the Signed Distance”, co-authored by Dr. Rédina Berkachy and Prof. Laurent Donzé, has been published in the journal Mathematics (MDPI). This milestone concludes 2024 on a high note! 🎉

📚 What’s it about?
This work addresses limitations in the widely used signed distance metric for fuzzy numbers. We propose two novel generalizations:
- Balanced Signed Distance (BSGD)
- Generalised Signed Distance (GSGD)
These metrics are designed to handle asymmetry, irregular shapes, and overlaps more effectively, offering enhanced precision in computational mathematics and fuzzy set theory.

📌 Why it matters:
The findings aim to advance applications in areas like decision-making systems, data analysis, and modelling uncertainty, opening the door to further innovation.

This paper presents a comprehensive study of the signed distance metric for fuzzy numbers. Due to the property of directionality, this measure has been widely used. However, it has a main drawback in handling asymmetry and irregular shapes in fuzzy numbers. To overcome this rather bad feature, we in...

The ASAM group is happy to announce that a new version of the R package of Dr. Rédina Berkachy and Prof. Dr. Laurent Donzé entitled “FuzzySTs: Fuzzy Statistical Tools” has been released.

The version 0.3 of the package is now available on CRAN:

https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/FuzzySTs/index.html

The main goal of this package is to present various fuzzy statistical tools. It intends to provide an implementation of the theoretical and empirical approaches presented in the book entitled "The signed distance measure in fuzzy statistical analysis. Some theoretical, empirical and programming adva...

The Applied Statistics And Modelling ASAM Group is pleased to announce that the Working Paper "Clustering the Swiss Pension Register" written by Layal Lettry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Laurent Donzé from the University of Fribourg is now online.

The anonymous data of the Swiss Pension Register (CCO/FSIO) (PR) are typically used to estimate (in the short, middle and long term) the future revenues and expenditures of the Old-Age and Survivors’ Insurance (OASI). In this perspective, it is essential to have a clear look at the register’s main statistical features. To better understand it and benefit more from its richness, the raw data are analysed by an appropriate clustering method.

The SONAR project aims to create a scholarly archive that collects, promotes and preserves the publications of authors affiliated with Swiss public research institutions.

A happy new year from the ASAM group to the Statistics community!

We are happy to end 2021 with successful projects such as the one recently closed with the S&L Consulting company. The topic of "Petroleum and Statistics" was our interest.

All the best for a wonderful new year 2022.
