Here is a fundamental truth that has always been true... but in the skills-short era, because of multiplication of multiplicity of skills has now brought into sharp focus

Not everyone is actively looking for a job. Research suggests that, and we know that, a tiny % of relevant talent is actively looking for a role at any given moment in time.

That means that most candidates suitable for your roles are not engaged in job searches. The best candidates typically among them.

So, crazy as it is, the global war for the best talent is being fought out among a minority % of active job seekers.

That is seriously old school and you need to rethink it

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.--Henry David Thoreau

Rome's Cicero's (106 - 43 BC) philosophy is still valid even today, for any country of our globe: 1. The poor: work and work, 2. The rich: exploit the poor, 3. The soldier: protects both, 4. The taxpayer: pays for all three, 5. The wanderer: rests for all four, 6. The drunk: drinks for all five, 7. The banker: robs all six, 8. The lawyer: misleads all seven, 9. The doctor: kills all eight, 10. The undertaker: buries all nine, 11. The Politician: lives happily on the account of all ten. Not far from the truth even today !!

Quotable Quote

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you
didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail
away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.
Dream. Discover.

While delivering a campaign speech one day Theodore Roosevelt was interrupted by a heckler: "I'm a Democrat!" the man shouted.
" May I ask the gentleman," Roosevelt replied, quieting the crowd, "why he is a Democrat?"
" My grandfather was a Democrat, my father was a Democrat and I am a Democrat."
" My friend," Roosevelt interjected, moving in for the kill, "suppose your grandfather had been a jackass and your father was a jackass. What would you then be?"
Alas, Roosevelt was thwarted by the quick-witted heckler, who promptly replied: "A Republican!"

A group of junior-level executives were participating in a management training program. The seminar leader pounded home his point about the need to make decisions and take action on these decisions. "For instance," he said, "if you had five frogs on a log and three of them decided to jump, how many frogs would you have left on the log?"

The answers from the group were unanimous: "Two."

"Wrong," replied the speaker, "there would still be five because there is a difference
between deciding to jump and jumping.

Top managers with "too much to do and not enough time to do it,'' frequently neglect their most critical duty—improving the business, says
Countless leadership coaches, books, software and websites offer various coping strategies to overwhelmed executives. For starters, decide what's most important to you—through a rigorous self assessment or by compiling a list of your regular daily tasks, experts say.

Even bosses with well-defined goals can "ultimately let other people's objectives overpower their own,''

The main problem, is priority dilution: emergencies that delay attention to your most important activities. To prevent it, managers have to actively decide what not to do.
