7 Years of Democracy & Debate

Here’s to seven years of conversations that matter, and to many more to come.

Understanding the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission

What is the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission (TSJC)? What laws guide it, who makes up the Commission, and what kinds of cases can and cannot be brought before it?

In this reel, we break down the Tibetan judiciary from the ground up:

→ What the TSJC is
→ The three legal codes that guide its work
→ Its composition and hierarchy
→ Its powers and functions
→ Eligibility and non-eligibility of cases
→ How the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission fits within the wider Tibetan judicial system

Established in 1992 under Article 62 of the Charter of the Tibetans-in-Exile, the TSJC serves as the highest judicial authority of the Central Tibetan Administration and the final appellate body within the Tibetan judicial system. (Tibet.net, trimzin.net)

But what exactly does that mean in practice?

Watch the reel to learn more about how justice and the rule of law operate within the Tibetan community in exile.

A reel on how to file a case at the TSJC will be covered later.
