Does watching violence cause violence?

🙃Yes it does! This has been proven.*

Viewing violence at young ages:

✅Lead them to becoming desensitized to violence
✅They develop a taste for seeing more violence
✅They have more aggressive outbursts
✅And more stressful health problems like high blood pressure.

Why do they like violence?💥

Shockingly to many, research shows that they are happier without or with much less online violence.

It is so present in the media that we assume they like it. I ask questions what students like online. Violence has NEVER come up. It is always things like, music, cat videos, food videos, dog videos, chatting with friends.

📢Steer them free from online violence, because they actually don’t love it and it is bad for them.

Where can you actually find all of this violence Allison?

🌎EVERYWHERE! This is the sad reality. You need to have great conversations with your children because even if you don’t give them a device, someone else will show them violence. They need to know they can come to you! Always!

👉Pro tip: Let them know in an age-appropriate way, when you are upset by something you have seen. Then tell them how you deal with this. This will normalize sharing about our online lives.

Example:
I need to go on a walk. I was on YouTube and I saw a video that made me upset. I turned my computer off and I need a break from the news.

What was it?

It was images of the war. Will you give me a hug and go on a walk with me? Let’s get some fresh air together.

Keep it simple, don’t worry your child and yet share what you can.💪

Images and words are part of online violence.
If you ask children to tell you some of the worst images and words they have seen, or heard online you will most likely want to cry. 😱

We have mentioned they often don’t tell us because they are worried we will take their devices away.
We must give them safe spaces to talk about this.

👉My workshops give students this space. Talk to your school about hiring an expert to come in. Kids need this.

I dare say this number is much higher, especially considering the pandemic, the ongoing war and the numbers of youth watching p**n. All of this has just shot those numbers through the roof.

😵Anxiety and stress are at record highs for our youth. This is alarming and one of the things I hear time and time again is that they want to spend time with us.

🤹They want to have fun. So take some time off. This is for you and for your children!! Have some fun and make sure you turn your phone off and concentrate on those who are with you. 👍
