I’ve built my career believing children are far more than that.

Hi, I’m Lathusa, although most people know me as Lasi, Lathu, or Miss Siva.

Avel Academy didn’t start with investors, an office, or a business plan.

It started in my bedroom.

One laptop.
Two students.
One dream.

At the time, I was in my second year of university studying English Language and English Language Teaching. Like many students, I wanted to build something meaningful. Coming from a family with older siblings, I wanted to create something of my own and prove that I could build something independently.

My first students were two girls from Switzerland.

Having been born in Switzerland before moving to London, I had connections between both countries. I never imagined those connections would become the foundation of something much bigger.

What started as tutoring quickly became a passion.

I fell in love with teaching.

Not because of grades, reports, or test scores.

Because of confidence.

Because of the smile a child gives when they finally understand something they once found impossible.

Because of the moment they start believing in themselves.

After university, I completed my PGCE in Education.

It was one of the most challenging and eye-opening experiences of my life.

I met incredible children and inspiring educators. One teacher I will never forget was Aga or as I always called her, “Ms.” She embodied everything I believe education should be: empathy, patience, understanding, and genuine care.

But I also saw something that stayed with me.

Too often, children were being viewed as statistics rather than individuals.

Too often, the child behind the data was forgotten.

Especially those who needed understanding the most.

That experience shaped my vision for education.

When I later moved back to Switzerland, finding a teaching position wasn’t easy.

So instead of waiting for an opportunity, I created one.

I poured everything I had learned, every challenge I had faced, and every lesson I had taught into Avel Academy.

Today, the academy that began with one laptop in a bedroom teaches students across 6+ countries.

But the thing I’m most proud of isn’t the growth.

It’s the children.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual child.

Every child learns differently.

Every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and understood.

Because at Avel Academy, we don’t just teach English.

We build confidence.

We create opportunities.

We help children find their voice.

From one laptop in a bedroom to students around the world. 🌍

What started as a passion for helping children build confidence in English has now reached students across Poland, Germany, Greece, Turkey, and Switzerland — and we’re only just getting started. 💫

At Avel Academy, learning English is never about worksheets alone. Through creative, tactile, and play-based learning approaches like LEGO Grammar, visual decoding, storytelling, and interactive games, I aim to make learning meaningful, exciting, and confidence-boosting for every child. 🧩📚✨

As a qualified UK primary school teacher with a background in English Language and ELT, my mission has always been to create lessons where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow.
