Finding friends in Switzerland isn’t impossible. But it does take some effort, a bit of awkwardness, and often being the one to go first.
After more than ten years here, I’ve seen so many kind, open people quietly struggle with something no one really warns you about:
Switzerland can feel pretty quiet on the social front.
I just published a new post on the Swiss Insider blog about this exact feeling, that weird period of time when everything around you is beautiful, clean, and efficient… but you still feel disconnected and alone.
The post offers real, practical ideas to help break through that early phase of expat isolation and loneliness, which can feel really overwhelming when moving to a new place. Things like pottery classes, pub quizzes, hiking groups, or even karaoke won’t fix everything, but they can create connection.
