𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐒𝐔 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 60𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐓𝐀 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Breaking new ground and stepping forward can lead to greater heights, as 𝑴𝒓. 𝑺𝒐𝒄 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑩𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒏, a Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Science student and a member of UniVERSE from Sorsogon State University – Magallanes Campus, showcased his study titled “𝘼𝙫𝙞𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙜𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮” through a research poster presentation at the 60th BIOTA National Convention and Scientific Session held in Legazpi City, Albay.

The research was conducted in collaboration with Sir Michael Galapon and Ma’am Jinky Bailon, who both contributed significantly to the completion of the study.

Student researcher Mr. Soc Gillan Bailon shared that his experience in presenting the study allowed him to meet individuals with similar passions and interact with professionals in the field. “𝑶𝒇 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆, 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚. 𝑰 𝒎𝒆𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔. 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍, 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆,” he said.

As an organization, UniVERSE looks forward to more of its members actively participating in such activities to broaden their perspectives on research across various disciplines and further enhance their academic and professional growth.

This participation highlights the active involvement of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) students in national scientific events and their growing contribution to research and academic development.

UniVERSE organization accomplished a new achievement as PROJECT EDUCARE: Laboratory Exposure and Symposium was effectively arranged in Ginangra this April 11, 2026, unifying grade 7 to grade 12 students, colleges, and out of school youth in a significant outreach initiative.

Participants showed eagerness and focus during the program.
The topic discussed is about HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus and AIDS where participants listened attentively, actively participated, and didn't hesitate to ask questions that showed their willingness for gaining knowledge.

One of the interesting parts of the seminar is the s***m viewing where the participants had the chance to look at the specimen under the microscope.

With the guidance of UniVERSE adviser 𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒏 and the Barangay Nutrition Specialist 𝑴𝒓𝒔. 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒛 𝑴𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆, the program becomes successful. After the event, the PIO officer, 𝑴𝒔. 𝑹𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒏 𝑯𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕 shared her happiness as a youth member of Barangay, experiencing programs like this that will surely make an impact on their community.

The distance didn't stop the officers and advisers in sharing knowledge with the youth. Indeed UniVERSE continues to strengthen minds, promote awareness, and inspire the youth to learn and expand their understanding.

The project is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

𝗕𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 held on March 21, 2026, at the SorSU CBM Building, Sorsogon City Campus.

The convention, themed "𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩: 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙩" provided a meaningful platform for learning, collaboration, and exposure to current advancements in microbiology. Through engaging plenary sessions, research presentations, and open discussions, participants deepened their understanding of the vital role of microorganisms in health, environment, and biotechnology.

A significant highlight of the event was the oath-taking of our adviser, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐇. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐧, as a new member of the organization—an inspiring milestone that reflects dedication to professional growth and commitment to the field of microbiology.

As aspiring science educators and researchers, this experience has strengthened our passion for scientific inquiry and community engagement. We look forward to more opportunities like this that foster growth, collaboration, and meaningful contributions to science and society.

This meaningful event marked the beginning of a new leadership journey dedicated to serving and representing the voices of its members.

Furthermore, 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑬 is deeply honored to have 𝙈𝙧. 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙚𝙡 𝙃. 𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙥𝙤𝙣 serve as its Adviser for A.Y 2025–2026. His guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support continue to inspire the officers and members to strive for excellence and professionalism in every endeavor.

Day 2 of our Science Week celebration continued with meaningful discussions, creative expressions, and deeper scientific awareness led by the UniVERSE Organization and BSEd Science students.

Science Exhibit (Continuation)
Our exhibits focused on two vital global health concerns:
Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness, emphasizing the importance of responsible antibiotic use, and
World AIDS Day, promoting awareness, understanding, and compassion toward individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.

Mobile Photography Competition
Participants showcased powerful perspectives through photography, capturing themes of science, health, environment, and social responsibility.

We were honored to host an insightful seminar focusing on HIV/AIDS and Environmental Awareness, which provided valuable knowledge and helped raise awareness on these important issues. The session was highlighted by the expertise and meaningful discussions led by our esteemed speakers, 𝙈𝙧𝙨. 𝙍𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙣 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙯, 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨 𝙉𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙧. 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙚𝙡 𝙃. Day 1 of our Science Week celebration was a huge success!
The UniVERSE organization kicked off the event with activities that sparked curiosity, teamwork, and scientific thinking.

Science Quiz Bee – Students battled it out in a friendly competition of knowledge, showcasing their mastery of concepts and quick thinking.

Pinoy Henyo: Science Edition – Laughter, energy, and excitement filled the room as participants guessed science terms under pressure!

Science Exhibit Contest – Our future science educators presented creative and insightful exhibits on:
Environmental Awareness
Energy Consciousness
Science for Peace and Development

From interactive models to meaningful displays, each exhibit highlighted how science can shape a sustainable, peaceful, and progressive future.

But one of the most memorable parts of Day 1 was our Pledge of Commitment. Students placed their painted handprints on our pledge wall—leaving their mark as a promise to be models of environmental stewardship, energy responsibility, and peace-driven scientific action.
Each handprint symbolizes a commitment to protect the planet, promote sustainability, and use science for the betterment of the community.

Thank you to all participants, teachers, and students who made Day 1 meaningful and inspiring. Let’s continue celebrating science with purpose and passion!

Our 𝓢𝓬𝓲𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓮 𝓦𝓮𝓮𝓴 celebration is here, and we’re thrilled to launch two days activities filled with learning, creativity, collaboration, and fun! Led by the UniVERSE organization, this event brings science beyond the classroom and into real-world experience.

Here’s what to look forward to:

𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 & 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭 will run for 2 days, showcasing students’ artistic vision and brilliant scientific ideas.
📍 The Booth Exhibit will be located at the building under construction beside the guard house.
🗓 Photography and exhibit displays will be open December 4–5.
