IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
October 8, 2023
Demography Students Association (DEMOSA-UL)
Caution on Election Violence

Demography Students Association stands against violence in elections and urges for peaceful democratic processes.

With great concern for the rising incidents of violence and unrest during election periods, the Demography Students Association (DEMOSA-UL) is taking a firm stance against any form of violence and advocating for peaceful democratic processes. As an organization committed to promoting inclusivity, democracy. We firmly believe that elections should be a platform for dialogue, recently, and the peaceful expression of the people's will.

We recently witnessed an alarming increase in acts of violence, intimidation, excrescent. This not only undermines the democratic values we hold dear but also poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of individuals and communities. We condemn all acts of violence, regardless of their origin or motivation, and call upon all citizens, political parties, and stakeholders to join hands in creating a peaceful and inclusive, and electoral environment.

Violence in elections not only stifles free expression but also deters eligible voters from participating in the democratic process. It erodes public trust, undermines the legitimacy of election results, and hampers the progress of our society. A fair, inclusive, and violence-free electoral process is essential for building strong democratic institutions, fostering social cohesion, and ensuring the peaceful transition of power.

We also call upon the relevant authorities, law enforcement agencies, and election monitoring bodies to prioritize the safety and security of voters, candidates, and electoral personnel. Adequate measures must be put in place to prevent, address, and deter, any form of violence during the electoral process. Those responsible for acts of violence must be held accountable, and justice should be served swiftly.

Demography Students Association (DEMOSA-UL) urges other civil society organizations, and all concerned citizens to join our cause in promoting peaceful elections. By working together, we can create an environment where citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation, fostering a society that values dialogue, tolerance, and respect.
