Meet Kome, a member of Acumen Academy’s team whose work is shaped by the builders who keep going when the path is anything but easy.
In a recent conversation with Maya Stewart, Co-founder of Yellow and an Acumen Hardest-to-Reach investee, Kome heard what resilience sounds like in practice.
Yellow is helping bridge the energy gap for more than half a million customers in Malawi while navigating fuel shortages, limited access to capital, and the daily pressure of building in a difficult market.
At one point, Maya shared:
“If everything were to stop because there’s a crisis, that means we will not be meeting our consumer demand, which also means our agents are not making an income.”
For Kome, that clarity stayed with her.
Because for builders like Maya, resilience is not an abstract idea. It is the decision to keep serving customers, supporting agents, and building toward dignity when stopping would be easier.
Across our community, stories like Maya’s remind us that stubborn optimism is not naïve. It is a discipline. A practice. A choice to keep moving because people are counting on you.
What story has helped you keep believing in the work?

Why do some social enterprises lose their way as they grow?
It's rarely because the solution stops working.
As the work grows, the decisions become harder. Pressure increases. Success starts being measured in ways that have nothing to do with why you began, and founders face leadership challenges they never anticipated.
The Acumen Fellowship is designed for this moment.
Through a transformative curriculum and a cohort of peers navigating similar questions, Fellows learn how to stay true to their values, lead through uncertainty, and scale their impact without compromising their purpose.
This is what we mean by moral leadership: not a set of ideals on the side, but the leadership capability that decides whether you scale with your purpose, or away from it.
Applications for the Acumen Pakistan Fellowship 2026 are open until 14 August.

Collecting impact data is easy to overcomplicate. The real challenge is knowing what information will help you learn, adapt, and make better decisions.
For many teams, impact measurement begins with good intentions. Then the process gets complicated: too many metrics, limited time, stretched capacity, and reports that do not always translate into action.
The Impact Data Collection Canvas helps teams step back and build a simple, focused plan in 45 minutes.
It helps you clarify why you’re collecting data, what you need to measure, who you need to learn from, and how those insights can shape better decisions.
Because impact data is only powerful when it is useful.
Explore the tool in Founders Hub and start building your impact data collection plan:

Meet Dr. Sara Saeed, Founder and CEO of Sehat Kahani, and an Acumen Fellow of 2016.
When investors suggested simplifying her model, Dr. Sara chose a harder path.
She stayed committed to a vision that connected underserved communities with women doctors who had been pushed out of the workforce, a decision that helped Sehat Kahani grow into one of Pakistan's largest telemedicine networks, delivering more than 4.6 million consultations through 81 clinics across the country.
Her journey is a testament to what becomes possible when bold leadership is backed by a community that believes in long-term change.
If you're ready to grow alongside a community of bold social entrepreneurs and purpose-driven leaders, apply for the Acumen Pakistan Fellowship 2026.

Sometimes, moral leadership means turning relationships into responsibility, and responsibility into action.
In April, 25 orphaned girls from Nooristan, Afghanistan, were minutes away from being deported from Pakistan.
They had been brought to Islamabad years earlier for safety, school, and the chance to build a different future. Then, as deportations intensified, they were detained and placed on a bus headed for the Torkham border.
Then one message came through:
“We will be sent to the other side in 8 minutes. All the girls are crying.”
What happened next was community in motion.
Members of the Pakistan Foundry opened humanitarian and legal channels, reached political leadership, and connected with senior government decision-makers. Just in time, an order was issued to stop the deportation. The bus turned around.
The journey is not over. But today, the girls are safe, together, back in school, and filled with hope again.
This is what becomes possible when people stop asking, “Is this my responsibility?” and start asking, “Who do I know who can help?”
This is moral leadership in practice.
And this is the power of the Acumen Foundry: it’s more than just a circle of support. It’s a force for action.

Meet Angel Imdad, Founder of IRVERDE GoGreen and a 2025 Acumen Pakistan Fellow.
For Angel, waste was never simply about what gets thrown away. It was about the people, opportunities, and environmental costs hidden within the system.
After witnessing the human impact of unsafe waste handling firsthand, she set out to build a different model. Today, IRVERDE works across the waste value chain, helping organizations manage waste responsibly, supporting livelihoods, and creating value from materials that would otherwise be discarded.
Like Angel, every Acumen Fellow has a story of persistence, purpose, and possibility. We are now looking for the next cohort of values driven leaders who are shaping Pakistan's future. Applications for the Acumen Pakistan Fellowship 2026 are now open. Apply by 14 August: https://hubs.la/Q04pBsZW0
