Everyone who was in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, has a personal 9/11 story, including UFT educators who were hard at work serving the city's 1.1 million students when planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. Twenty-five years later, educators reflect on their experiences.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we remember and mourn the lives lost that day and in the years that followed. We also honor the workers that helped New York respond, recover and rebuild.

We will never forget the tragic events of this day and will continue to honor the victims, their families and the heroic first responders who risked their lives.

This Labor Day, we’re honoring workers past, present and future! Ahead of the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, the NYC labor community especially remembers the workers who ran toward danger, helped our city recover and rebuild, and paid an enormous price in the years that followed. Proud to be part of the union family today and every day.

🚨NEWS - THE RESPECT CHECK PASSED CITY COUNCIL🎉

Solidarity is our strength! UFT members united and paras made their voices heard to move the hearts and minds of the New York City Council, especially our champions Speaker Julie Menin and Council Member Carmen De La Rosa.

Because of the advocacy of our members and the parents who advocated for their children, 49 City Council members joined us in standing for the dignity of our paraprofessionals.

Final step: signing the RESPECT Check into law.
