My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and the brothers and sisters of the New Haven Fire Department during this difficult time.
From NHFD 12/03/2025- The New Haven Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Firefighter Chris Brainard. Chris was a 10 year veteran of the department assigned driver if Truck Company 2 in the Hill section of the city. Chris has been battling cancer and departed us today at just 36 years old. He leaves behind a wife and 2 children.
Chris was a reliable go to guy on the fire ground and will be deeply missed. We ask you keep his family in your prayers.

Prayers are with family, friends, and the Stamford Fire Department.
It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter Herman Naring, IAFF 3rd District Local 786 –Stamford, Connecticut. Brother Naring, 64, passed away on Nov. 16, 2025 after succumbing to occupational cancer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road, Darien, Connecticut 06820. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church 628 Main Street, Stamford, Connecticut 06901.
Expressions of sympathy and condolences for the family and the Local can be sent to IAFF Local 786, 629 Main Street, Stamford, CT 06901.

🚨 SB 1426 “AN ACT MAKING CHANGES TO THE FIREFIGHTER CANCER RELIEF PROGRAM” now law as of today 🚨
Some key changes to the bill 👇🏻
✅ adds skin cancer coverage
✅ updates eligibility criteria
✅ streamlines the application process for state-employed firefighters
✅ ensures benefits are treated as occupational disease claims under workers compensation
✅ allows administrative law judges to hear appeals of denied benefits
