﴿ يَرفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذينَ آمَنوا مِنكُم وَالَّذينَ أوتُوا العِلمَ دَرَجاتٍ وَاللَّهُ بِما تَعمَلونَ خَبيرٌ ﴾

فأتوا بالتوراة فاتلوها

So bring the Torah and recite it,

أسلمت وجهي لله

I have submitted myself to Allah

اللهم مالك الملك تؤتي الملك من تشاء

O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will

يعلمه الكتاب والحكمة والتوراة والإنجيل

He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel

مصدقا لما بين يدي من التوراة

confirming what was before me of the Torah

لعنت الله على الكاذبين

the curse of Allah upon the liars

سواء بيننا وبينكم

that is equitable between us and you

ما أنزلت التوراة والإنجيل إلا من بعده

Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him

ما لكم
What is with you?

بيضاء لذة للشاربين
White and delicious to the drinkers;

إلا قول البشر
but the word of a human being.

عسى ربي أن يهديني سواء السبيل
"Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."

رب إني لما أنزلت إلي من خير فقير
My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."

إن ابني من أهلي

indeed my son is of my family;

يرتع ويلعب

(to) enjoy and play

فأكله الذئب

and a wolf ate him.

ألقى الشيطان في أمنيته

Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding

إنه ليئوس كفور

he is despairing and ungrateful.

لفرح فخور

exultant and boastful -

ما لا يضره وما لا ينفعه

that which neither harms him nor benefits him.

ثاني عطفه

Twisting his neck

فما له من مكرم

for him there is no bestower of honor.

يأخذه عدو لي وعدو له

(there) will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him

ليس كمثله شيء

(There) is not like Him anything

فليمدد بسبب إلى السماء ثم ليقطع

فَلْيَمْدُدْ بِسَبَبٍ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ثُمَّ لْيَقْطَعْ

let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off

هذان خصمان اختصموا في ربهم

هَٰذَانِ خَصْمَانِ ٱخْتَصَمُوا فِى رَبِّهِمْ

These are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord.

إلا لمن أذن له

إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ

except for one whom He permits.

وأولو الأرحام بعضهم أولى ببعض

And those of relationship are more entitled

ماذا أراد الله بهذا مثلا

مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا

What did Allah intend by this as an example?

يحبونهم كحب الله

يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ ٱللَّهِ

They love them as they [should] love Allah.

أجعلنا من دون الرحمن آلهة

أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ءَالِهَةً

Did We make besides The Most Gracious gods

If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face.......

فإن أصابه خير اطمأن به وإن أصابته فتنة انقلب على وجهه



And they sold him for a very low price, a few dirhams, and they were about him of those keen to give up......

وشروه بثمن بخس دراهم معدودة وكانوا فيه من الزاهدين

Then (is one) who is brought up in ornaments and he in the dispute (is) not clear........

أومن ينشأ في الحلية وهو في الخصام غير مبين
