Alex Dolese came all the way from Bozeman to teach our students how to make a modern rocking chair. Alex was a joy to have at the school and we can’t wait for her to come back!

We welcomed the wonderful Meredith Hart to our school last week to teach a Fine Case Making class. The students thrived under Meredith’s leadership and made some beautiful cases. We can’t wait for her to come back to sunny Tampa, Florida!

Our students dipped their toes into the art of pyrography (wood burning) during last week’s Art & Technicals of Box Making class, taught by Kate Swann and Andrew Gibson. 🔥 🌴☀️

Chris Schwarz taught our students how to make stick chairs last week, and it was an absolute joy to see their progression from day to day. We loved every minute!

We are hosting a stool making class led by Chris Schwarz this weekend, and our students are working hard and learning a lot!

This Box Making course builds on your woodworking and power tool knowledge and is a great stepping stone class to larger projects, like cabinets or drawers.

Learn and practice multiple box-making techniques: design, carcass construction, resawing lumber, box joints, bevel cuts, and setting hinges and hardware. This is as much a “technical skills” class as it is a box-making class.

You will also experiment with:
    •    sliding and mortised, hinged lids
    •    keyed miters, finger joints, rabbets
    •    rabbeted and captured bottoms,
    •    Three and 4-way grain matching,
    •    footed bases
    •    the “architectural aspect” of boxes

This one-week course is a great introduction to hand tools and fundamental woodworking techniques and you’ll go home not only with a nice tool chest, but with a sawbench on which to put it (it’s also handy for sawing and sitting, of course!).

But the real joy is in the new techniques you’ll pick up.

• hand-cut joinery (dovetails, dados, rabbets, shiplaps, mortises and more!)
• thumbnail moulding
• how to raise a panel,
• “rules” for hand-tool carcase construction
• how to use layout tools, handsaws, chisels, bench planes, joinery planes and more

Beginners are welcome.
